Sorry if this seems like a silly question but I was going through the tab for Sand and don't know the chord of D sharp. Can someone help please?

It's not D# according to the tab, it's D* (ie similar to D). It's just C moved up two frets ie x54030. Hope that helps (also hope I'm not wrong ). Edited by: dyls

Hey Melody maker Em I haven't got my guitar here so haven't tried it. I'm looking for Dsharp/Eflat-same chord, just in the tab its referred to as Dsharp so that's why I put that down.

Yeah the D* is actually a Dsus4add9 I think. You
should play it open like that to get the ring right.

Tis kinda mindboggling at the start, I was just
clarifying it for folks. Like dyls said, just play a regular C and slide it up two frets.

i think they mean, dont bar it (i.e put your first finger accross all six strings) just let those standard e tuning of the guitar do the work. i think i'llhave alook at sand. this site is awesome. I was learning toffeepop and stamping mty feet like a live recording i have of it, now my mother isnt speaking to me cos of the row i was making!! |

you're absolutely right, I knew i'd get it wrong figuring it out in my head! it should of course be barred at the 6th x68886 as someone has already said. sorry for the misinformation! bar at the 11th in the E shape is right for D# tho too.

michelle - as i am the amazingly gifted musical genius who created the tab in this site i can tell you that the chord D* is Not D sharp (D#). it's just a kind of fancy D chord which is very easy to play - just take a basic C major chord and slide the whole lot up two frets, then make sure you don't hit the bottom e string, but play the other 5. you'll hear how it's like a D chord but cooler. hope that helps. |

its a c but up three fret try some hammer ons while your up there plaing that chord, damien uses this chord loads. d* is a lazy way of actually saying what the chord is. like when people write g/f# etc. chords have names that really mean nothing to most people people remember shapes and sounds.

hmm...let's see..if you are really willing to know what is a certain chord called, just do it this way.. first of all, check the major scale of the key, which is in this case D..then D major would be D E F# G A B C# D if you look at what tones are we playing in this D* chord on every string, those would be D E F# G so basically in this chord we are playing I-II-III-IV degree from major scale, quite awkward but oh well...(the usual major chord consists of I-III-V) so anyway, as much as i try, the best i can call this chord would be Dsus4add9 with added IIIth degree and eliminated Vth. If you fret the fifth fret on E you are adding the Vth degree (A) which is quite logical, eh.. oh well, my knowledge in music theory is quite weak, so the chord might as well have much simpler name... |
