here's my little review track by track
fall - i excepted the whole album would be songs like this one, which wouldn't bother since fall is one of my favorites. love the lyrics in this one, make you put a lot of thoughts in deciphering the meaning.. prayer for the dying - i've never clicked with this one, i find it too draggy(??). love the harmony on the second half of the chorus though. snow - reminds me of paper house. love the chorus. a nice song to pretend to be in its video while driving in a backseat of a car while it's snowing. lo - surprising. didn't expect lisa's lyrics to have a repeating line. chorus is catchy but i can't really tell what are the lyrics. love the yoo oooooo part. undertow - absolute fav. first piano riff makes me think of teeth's intro and then BOOM, synth. and after that the chorus with mandolin and banjo and it really reminds me of braille. the 'i wanna flo o o o o oat' line is forever stuck in my head. ora - beautiful. 'moon pulling the water 'round and me to you'. beautiful. and also there's a background noise on one part and it's what she talked about in an interview when she said she liked that the certain artist had lots of background noises. we, the drowned - exciting. it just builds up till "and we sing and we sing and we siiiiiing" and after that part it's magic. "like thiiis like thiiis" is lisa's most powerful singing ever and i enjoy every part of it. also TONS of amazing harmonies. anahorish - harmonies. harmonies. harmonies. the lullaby of the album. tender - sea sew on steroids. good but certainly not fav. love the "who o o o o o came up swinging every morning through it all" line funeral suit - was my favourite before the album was released but i can't get accustomed to the new timing. love the drums though. barton - people don't seem to like this one but i adore it. the dissonance and her vibrato is so soothing. also i never expected that lisa would have "crocodile" in her song. love the trippy singing and the electronic beat. very björkish in my opinion. perfect ending track with that weeeoooooh weeeeoh ending. sorry for the long post .

I'm officially obsessed with this album. Sounds like I'm not the only one! I'm listening to it nonstop because it gets me into a very soothing head space. She's always been very poetic and clever with words. Other than the odd effects in Prayer for the Dying, I think every song is perfect. I ordered the CD, so I should have the lyrics soon enough.
I don't think it's her accent that makes her lyrics hard to understand. I think she gets caught up with the sound and emotion of the word/song and that changes the pronunciation and renders it unrecognizable. |

just realised Ora/We The Drowned = perfect song sequence!!!!!!
the songs I didn't know before the release (Barton, Undertow and Tender) haven't clicked yet, maybe I need the lyrics, for me, Prayer is still the weakest link, you shouldn't put such a slow and dragged song as track 2, kinda kills the flow, Barton maybe will click but so far is my 2nd least favourite my vinyl hasn't arrived yet and is driving me crazy, damn post office

Undertow and Tender are very sweet. Barton has grown on me, but it took a while. Love Funeral Suit now more than in the beginning. I still can't get into Prayer, but I read she wrote it for a friend who lost a spouse. If I got that message in a sympathy card, I would be very moved. Having the lyrics now really helps. Now I'll be a nerdy scholar and try to interpret all the line and hidden subtext. If someone doesn't beat me to it, I'll scan it when I'm back at work tomorrow.
I like that she turned the poem Anahorish into a song. I haven't heard of many musicians doing that, but my music interests are very limited. Songs are essentially poems, in my opinion. I would love it if someone would sing Neruda! |

Please, can someone upload the lyrics of the "Lo", "Funeral Suit" and "We the Drowned"? I know there's some people tried on Genius page, but I'm still not sure about that. Sadly, the album still don't arrive to South America, 'cause there's no stock.
If you do not fully understand the lyrics, you'll understand that for those who do not speak English is even more difficult, haha. I'd be really grateful. |

Every night of late I'm wide awake because I feel that every last mistake that I have made has me in pieces I smile to your face (and it is) a lie just the same (as if I) I washed it all away (and I showed) my empty plate With every hour that passes I try to tell myself what I know that nights are only ashes of days gone by burned black and broken I wear them on my skin ahead when I begin to run I chase until it follows /// Funeral Suit He came by in his funeral suit in an open hearted shade of blue asked me what I like to do on a July evening To Bermondsey or to Shoreditch I said I don't know which is which the night a thread for him to stitch for me, the unbelieving In the end we just stay in and gesture with our mugs of gin dance around this borrowed kitchen a stop and start dumb show I am a cold filament we advance in tender increments between the past and future tense test the weight of both /// We, The Drowned We, the drowned hold our hollow hearted ground til we swallow ourselves down again We, the ashes we spent our days like matches and burned ourselves as black as the end We know not the fire in which we burn but we sing and we sing and the flames grow higher we read not the pages which we turn but we sing and we sing and we sing We, the wrong we the sewn up and long gone were before and all along like this We, the drowned the lost and found out We are all finished again ///

Have people gotten their physical copy yet? It's been over a week now I still don't have it. I thought the point of pre-ordering was to get the album on the day of release. Good thing I opted for the digital copy as well...

So does anyone have a clear favourite yet? I think "We, The Drowned" takes the crown for me.

I find it really hard to decide, I'd say Fall, We the Drowned and Ora share the first place ;-)
