Oh man I'd love for these gigs to be in August. I would totally go if they were. I'm a bit jealous of you all!

Whats the closed airport to Grado you can fly in from germany? Triest?

And how would you travel further on to ferrara and firenze? Are there any special train tickets for tourists available? Anyone with this knowledge how can help on setting up an itinary ^^?

there's plenty of airports around the area. The biggest one is Marco Polo/Venice... but then there's little ones where Ryanair + other small companies fly like German Wings or Wizzair... I know there's an airport in Trieste but never been there... there's also Treviso for sure, which is the one I always fly from/to... then Verona, Bologna... all pretty close... depends from which city you're flying...

Ferrara and Firenze are easily reached by train. And yes, there's special prices (not for tourists, for everybody) if you book in advance... it's an offer called 'mini' and you can find it at the trenitalia site (www.trenitalia.com)... I've actually bought my train tix to and back from Firenze today, 19E each way with this offer... half price of regular price...

Thank you borneoman - i will give the airports a try. i only checked munich to triest so far. perhaps i will find better offer elsewhere.

Can you help me out with the exact train stations names going "from" and "to"? I checked several times/cities, but never got a result - so i must have done something terribly wrong.

Ferrara and Firenze are big cities, easy to reach by train. Check the trenitalia site.

Grado is more complicated. That's a little place in the middle of nowhere. Even for me I'll probably rent a car cos I don't know how to get there. Well, during the day it's reachable. There's buses from Trieste and also from a town called Palmanova that can be reached by train. But the problem is coming back. Hopefully Damien will stay up all night playing an aftershow concert on the beach

probably Glo knows better... I've only been there in Grado once on the way to Slovenia, think it was pretty close to the border. I remember we left the highway and drove for like 10 min in secondary roads to reach Grado. It's very nice, it's just besides a marine reserve, but it's also a but in the middle of nowhere.

was thinking that in regards to flights, you can also check Milano... a bit further but with many possibilities as it has 3 different airports (including the Ryanair one in Bergamo)... If you're unlucky with planes (I kinda think there's not very cheap cheap flights between It and Germany) you can also try the train... i've heard there's very cheap offers to travel across Europe and there's nightrains for instance that cost very little..

Grado is easy to reach but as Marti said, only during the day, you can't come back after the gig... so you should sleep in Grado (I can provide you some hotel info if you want) and then get back in the morning.
the easiest way to get to Grado is by train to Cervignano, and then there's a bus that takes you to Grado in 15 minutes...

As Marti said, the easier airports are Trieste, Venezia, Bologna, Verona... if your trip is a low budget trip, maybe you should calculate the train prices from those cities to Cervignano... this is where you can find all the info on the Italian trains: http://www.fsitaliane.it/homepage_en.html
"R" and "RV" trains are the cheapest, but slowest. the others are faster but more expensive... if you decide to come, let me know and I'll help you with booking trains, because sometimes they do offers and faster trains are cheaper than usual

Unfortunately, I do nothing about trains between Germany and Italy so I can't help you with that... but if you find cheap flights, it's better.

If you want to come to Milan, I'm sure we can arrange a trip and go to Grado together I still don't know how I'll get there, but I'm sure we will sort it out somehow...

let me know!

Thanks for your wonderufl help! Much appreciated.

Itinerary so far:

0: I picked Munich to Tries Airport (which is really close to grado) and quite afordable, takes 1:10 h

1: Grado to Ferrara on 27th

The Only Connection i can buy online on 27th is
07:41 CERVIGN > 10:36 FERRARA
Id need to know if i can get a bus from grado to cervign train station this early..

2: Ferrara to Firenze on 28th

Also is it common that i can only buy tickets for direct link connections online?
E.g. the only direct connection from ferrara to firenze the sites offer is

Ferrara 09:30 > Firenze S. M. Novella 10:35

If i want to go to Firenze Prato instead to Novella i cannot buy this in one transaction - i have to buy two tickets seperately. That's quite strange.

3: Firenze to Firenze Peretola Airport

I assume i have to take the bus:
http://www.aeroporto.firenze.it/EN/i...s&jk=17&curr=0
Where is piazza statzione? Is this "Abside Santa Maria Novella‎" at the piazza della stazione (Google Maps)
Can i buy a voucher online in advance?

Glo32 and borneoman - which gig will you be attending?

This is where the bus to the Florence airport leaves from: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=stazio...leria&t=m&z=16
as you can see, it's really close to the Stazione Santa Maria Novella

as for trains, it's possible that not all trains are still updated since July is far... just wait another month or two and there will be lots of trains Just like there are now... example: http://orario.trenitalia.com/b2c/npp...ag_r=1&x=0&y=0

So, you're doing grado, ferrara and firenze! Great!
I'm doing Grado and Ferrara... and you should hurry up for tickets of both gigs because in Grado they are numbered so the sooner you get them the better the tickets, and Ferrara holds less than 600 people so tix will fly away soon...

just talked with someone who's from the Grado area and told me that you can find all the bus schedules to do Trieste-Grado and Grado-Cervignano by bus in here:

http://www.saf.ud.it/ricercaorari.aspx?area*

just checked the Trenitalia site and I can buy any station, not sure why you cannot...

for the trains... see there's different kinds, the slow/cheap ones (or regionale) that basically have lots of stops... and the fast/expensive ones (FrecciaRossa)... the latter is the fastest option... and that one only stops at Firenze S.M. Novella... at the trenitalia site frontpage there's a link to cheap tickets (mini)!!! worth checking!!

I'm also doing the Grado-Ferrara-Firenze minitour!!!

Thank you so much Borneoman and glo32!!

this helps a lot. I guess i just really cannot buy all the trains in july now. if i searh for trains leaving today i can buy all the trains. i just wait a lil longer before buying the train tickets.

Its kinda strange that damien is touring again - perhaps theres a new album coming after all and we will be the first one to hear the songs live *fingers crossed*

Does anyone recommend particular ticket brokers for these shows? No experience with the various Italian companies.

still same place... the location is a castle and has different areas that can be used for gigs... they shifted area...

not sure if it's to get more people in or if it's earthquake-related?? if you've heard about the earthquakes in Italy, Ferrara is very close to the epicenter and many houses and walls have tumbled down...

So who else is doing the Italy & Damien tour?

My planned itinerary looks as follows:

Departe: Munich - Trieste
24 - 27 < Grado
27 < Ferrara
28 - 30 < Firenze
Return: Firenze - Frankfurt

Just bought tickets. Wow. Can't believe I'm a) going back to Italy (I'm of Italian descent but have only been once before; b) seeing Damien again, for the first times in 5 years and c) seeing Damien Rice in Italy at a friggin' castle.

Doing Ferrara and Firenze. Flying into Pisa earlier in the week and going to take a few days to just enjoy Firenze too.

Has anyone been to these venues before and can suggest what time to get there to get good seats?
