Default Osheaga Festival - who's goin?

Hi there, anyone going to Osheaga next week-end?

Damien is playing saturday. 85$ per day, 150$ for both... 85 bucks is a bit expensive to see only Damien, I was wondering if anyone know another saturday act worth seeing? I'll try to see Explosions in the Sky for sure and Patrick Watson. Most of the bands I wanted to see are on Sunday, but 150$... damn.

i'm going to both days. it shall be aaaaaaawesome. i'm definitely seeing editors, blonde redhead, patrick watson, stars, the clientele, the veils, feist and then i'll have to choose between smashing pumpkins and explosions in the sky. i'm not looking forward to sunday quite as much though... we are scientists, the most serene republic, miracle fortress, and either interpol or MIA.

Nice!
Yesterday I lost a pair of free tickets by an centimeter... A contest, I finished 2nd place and won a CD... I don't even know if I'll go take the CD.

Ahhh that would have been so awesome.

May I suggest that you go see Explosions in the Sky instead

I went, and I was... disappointed. Like, really.
That was the fourth time I was seeing Damien play in about a year, the first one was the best one, followed by the 2nd one, then the third... then yesterday.

He was probably very angry or something cause it felt more like I was in a rock show than anything else. He played almost every rock song he knew, and the slow songs had a rock feeling to them. Damn, he had only an hour to play and we got a drum solo that lasted like 10 minutes. Not that I don't like rock, but I had seen plenty during the day and I wanted some real Damien Rice.

There was even drums on Cannonball! Come on? I remember hearing him saying after the ****ty cannonball remix that he would never allow something like that again. Well, his version yesterday sounded exactly like the remix.

He did not play Delicate, Older Chests, Amie, Cheers Darlin', Cold Water, Eskimo, Accidental Babies, Elephant... which to me are his best songs.

It is very weird because he left Juniper cause it was going this way and he wasn't "feeling" the concerts anymore.

I know, this is a very personal review. But I remember the first shows where the heavy songs were there to set more intensity on the slow ones. I think yesterday, Damien was trying to be something he's not.

Patrick Watson and Explosions in the sky were more worthy of my 90 bucks.

DR, I think you cannot really compare a festival with a regular gig. It's the same for most artists. Whenever I go to a festival I always prepare myself and always lower my expectations. Most setlists are greatest hits and then they always play the harder/rockier tracks.

So what was the setlist????

Aww i'm sorry it didn't go as good as you though it would! .... But Marti's right... there's no comparison when it comes to a Damien Gig and Damien playing at a festival... except that is for T in the park!

i actually enjoyed the Cannonball he did! ... But ya i guess it looses it's charm when he makes it a bit more upbeat!

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy yourself DRQuebec!
But it does seem to be quite a different atmosphere.... I'm not very surprised at the kind of performance. When I was living in my fantasy world....I was planning to go to Osheaga to hear some harder, louder songs, hopefully like T in the Park ....and then to Toronto to get more of a range of sentiment.

ps....Maria....you didn't think some of the songs at T in the Park were so hard? Whew, I thought so, and I loooved it

what do you mean hard?.... what i was saying was that except for T in the park, which was soo great! ... I couldn't think of any other festival performance of his that is better than his gigs! ...

I didn't write the setlist. But it was mostly his average heavy songs (in my opinion) like Me my yoke and I, Woman Like a man... The slow part of I remember felt like he was only looking forward to the heavy part. I was always looking in the audience and people were like wtf? Especially because the overall mood was set for something smooth (the advertisment for Damien was saying Irish folk musician, speaks to your soul, makes you cry, that kind of stuff)

Hey! But I enjoyed myself anyways... I was disappointed, for sure... mostly because I had many friends there that had heard me talk about Damien for the past 3 years, and they finally got a chance to see him play... And I knew that what they were seeing wasn't really Damien...

oh I misunderstood what you meant by comparison.... I thought you were saying festivals are harder/louder/rockier ,except for T in the Park, instead you were comparing how good gigs are to festivals. Sorry my fault

DRQuebec....so nothing out of the ordinary was played... but was Then Go or Prague or hmmm.....maybe Insane played?

Nope. Nothin outside O or 9 except for The Professor and Woman like a man.
He used to do special gigs every time he played MTL...

i loved it! it obviously wasn't the same as a normal concert, there was much less talking, less jamming and the setlist was a bit generic but damien looked uber happy. he was really energetic and the sound and crowd were great. i don't remember the exact setlist, i think my friend might've written it down but for now:

the professor
volcano
cannonball
woman like a man
me, my yoke and i
rootless tree
9 crimes
coconut skins
the blower's daughter
i remember

in bold are the only songs of which the order i'm sure.

edit: my friend did write it down.

The Professor & La Fille Danse
Volcano
Me, My Yoke and I
Rootless Tree
Cannonball
Coconut Skins
Woman Like A Man
9 Crimes
The Blower's Daughter
I Remember
