that's exactly what i was thinking!

but i chose "the animals were gone" ... it just speaks to me. it's newer, and i didn't know it as well as the others when i got the disc.

Hm, the animals were gone has started to grow on me lately. Damn, I want that album now!

^ muskoxen... nice signature! That's one of the most memorable lines from Closer.

This is a toughie, for sure...looks like the results are spread out pretty good!

Right now though, I can't get enough of Coconut Skins and Me, my Yoke & I

It's amazing that (at the moment at least) there is less than 10% between the most popular and the least... show's how good an album it is.

i had to go with coconut skins, i just love it....followed by a close second of animals were gone - i've loved that ever since i heard it for the first time a few years ago, i think the elephant line is so briliant! very excited for the nyc show tonight!

kkraft, do you mean Elephant and not The Animals Were Gone? I didn't think Damien had played The Animals Were Gone until this year on the Fiona Apple tour, and there's no mention of elephants in the lyrics of the song...Unless I'm wrong of course, which is always likely!

Default sorry, idon't vote...

there is one thing that makes me admire damo and his work; his every album up until now shows his intelligence only if it is seen as an entirety. i love listening to his cd from the beginning to the end without repeating any of the songs... i really believe that nothing is accidental (like the babies!!!), not even the song order! so, although the "accidental babies" makes me feel very vulnerable against life and i'm crazy about it, i prefere not to vote for it! i vote for "9" !
p.s however, it was very interesting to view these "poll results"! thanks!

not sure if someone has spotted this before

but "coconut skins" has a real resemblence to "west of her spine" by bell x1
The melody moreso but when you listen to the two they are pretty bang on similar

Thank you! When I saw it performed at the Palladium for the first time in the summer of 2005, that's the comparison I used when I was trying to find out what the song was called. So yes, I definitely agree with you

Wow, I really am surprised that "The Animals is Gone" is so popular. I love Damo, but that song does nothing for me. I hate to say it, but I actually think the album would be better/stronger without that track...

On the other hand, I think "Elephant" is very possibly the best thing he's ever done (which is obviously saying a lot). That's music, I guess -- we're all listening to the same thing and hearing something different.

I selected Elephant, and like most members here it wasn't an easy decision!

All the tracks on '9' were new and fresh to me, so I'm wondering where people have heard other/live versions before (apart from being at a concert)?. I'd love to hear the different versions.

Interesting... after WEEKS of it being a tie between the top 3 or 4 songs, Rootless Tree seems to be taking a lead... and Coconut skins, which started slowly is now moving up too.

After much thought and careful listening, I've narrowed it down to Me, My Yoke and I and Grey Room.

I think the lyrics in Me, My Yoke and I are completely brilliant, but I haven't sorted them all out yet as to what they stand for. Could just be DR messing with my mind.

Grey Room is just gorgeous.

I think Rootless Tree is my favourite. I love how it starts of nice and calm and then it hits the chorus

Wow Rootless Tree is really taking a lead now.

I'll probably post the re-poll in early December and we'll see how people's minds have changed.

Thumbs up

Definately without a doubt it has to be - ROOTLESS TREE!!!
We can all let out your anger singing this song.
If Woman like a man was on it, that would be my favourite.

i have to say that 9 crimes has yet to grow on me. i just don't like the arrangements of the vocals. if it were just damien or just lisa doing the track, i think it would work better (for me )

i still love Elephant.
