It would be great at this point if I could say: "Schleswig??? Are you kidding?? I'm from Holstein myself!!!", but alas..
I do know of it though.. I believe Denmark has a minority down there, and there has been many a political and armed battle about the border..

it's the same for Denmark, we also celebrate the most on the 24th - xmas dinner, dancing and singing around the tree, present exchange.

here in germany we are celebrating (like in denmark ) x-mas on the 24.th with changing presents, eating together.... im not sure, why we are celebrating on the 24. th and the others on the 25. th.

i have been in co. wexford for one week, co. kerry for one week, one week in co. cork, two weeks in co. clare and one week in co. wicklow and traveled around with the car. i saw a lot and miss ireland very much. im planing to come back next year and then i want to see the north.

for some reason here in DK we celebrate everything the night BEFORE the holiday. Like the night of san giovanni/John (danish: Skt. Hans) we celebrate on the 23th, the evening before st. John's day, and equally with xmas eve = being the night before xmas day it's the night we really celebrate. We also celebrate st. Martin's evening (Mortens dag) on the evening before the actual date of st. Martin's day. Kinda backwards I guess, but that seems to be the pattern of our celebrations.
