That business of art sounds like a crappy job. I wonder why we all wanna do it? We must be eejits. And then we blame Damien for taking some months off. Sheesh.

Yeah, but people only blame him here, everyone feels anonymous on the internet. I'm sure that none of people's complaints are made to him face to face, no-one would have the balls for it, he's a surprisingly intimidating guy. Not instantly, more in a responsive way.

bumpman, can you remember any lyrics from lisa's song because i was sure i'd herd it before but now i cant for the life of me remember what it was.

and can ya throw me a lyric from the new Damien song aswell because at the time i assumed it was a cover.

i have to disagree with everyone here and say the 29th was a better gig, especially in terms of choice and order of songs on the set-list and band performance..it had both a natural and tight flow to it.

while i'm here i might as well say Damiens gig at the big tree on saturday night was one of the best i've ever been to...it was pure magic...last forty minutes were completely spontaneous (Lisa’s ‘gently Johnny’ and ‘one love’)...and displayed Damien’s musical talent in a natural, unrehearsed and surreal moment...i've never seen the guy so happy on stage.
A group of music lovers, loving music…beautiful.
Hope other Eskimos were there to see it.

Nah, can't remember any lyrics, she played it second last at the Big Tree though, so it's pretty definite that it's original, same with the cowbell song. I had meant to ask Damien what it was called over the weekend, but y'know how these things go, I never got around to it... I'd agree with you on the saturday night show at the Big Tree too, it was totally casual, what with their not being able to find Vyvienne for a few songs and whatnot, Both of the big jams were probably the greatest things I've ever heard the band doing, they were just amazing. Much better then the whole structured set thing that they do... But then it's not that easy to assemble twenty odd musicians for a set, so I suppose it makes it a little special.

And yeah cille, I do find Damien somehow intimidating, he's quite friendly and all that, what with the being up for banter and so forth. But physical experiences of meeting people can be different then when you're reading about it, there's something that's a little weird about the way he responds to people, as if you can see his mental reactions to things in his face or something. He's quite expressive, I guess it's a body language thing. It doesn't make much sense when you're reading about it though.

i feel the best word to describe him is 'intense'...it pretty much covers everything.

the second last song lisa did at the big tree was definitely 'gently Johnny' the traditional folk song..

"i put my hand on on her knee
and she said do ya want to see
i put my hand on her breast
and she said do ya want a kiss

Gently, Gently, Gently Johnny, Gently Johnny my gigolo

i put my hand on her thigh
and she said do ya want a try
i put my hand on her belly
and she said do ya want to feel me

Gently, Gently ,Gently Johnny, Gently Johnny my gigolo

ba da da dah..."

but are ya sure thats the one she played at vicar street? Because i dont think it was. lisa usually sings 'gently Johnny’ with the accompaniment of a bongo drums and ‘gut bucket’ bass line...but at vicar street she was on the lowden and Damien was on the electric guitar..hmm?

i'll dig out the recordings of the songs i have her singing and see what i come up with because i'm dying to know what is her own material and what covers she sings.

I think this might be the one they played. Vyvienne plays chello the whole way through this song…cant remember if she played with lisa at vicar street?

“….you get down sometimes
you need the music that it brings
you’ve got someone in your head
you’ve got another in your business
you’ve several in your…?
Sometimes, sometimes…bah dah dah…
I get down sometimes
And I am perforated plenty
Hits you on the train
Ya don’t know where you’re heading to
Or even where you started out from
Ooh yeah…
No one ever talks to me like you do
I don’t know what you say but at least its true
Bah dah dah…”

Anyone know what it is?

I know she does john Martyns 'Couldn’t Love You More’ and Nina Symones ‘Be My Husband’ too.

My favorite song that I’ve heard Lisa sing is Nick Caves ‘the ship song’. Her version is extremely beautiful…very passionate…I know she sang it at the big tree on Sunday.

‘Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down.
We make a little history baby
Every time you come around.
Come loose your dogs upon me
And let your hair hang down.
You are a little mystery to me
Every time you come around.

We talk about it all night long
We define our moral ground.
But when I crawl into your arms
Everything comes tumbling down.

Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down.
We make a little history baby
Every time you come around.

Your face has fallen sad now
For you know the time is nigh
When I must remove your wings
And you, you must try to fly.

Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down.
We make a little history baby
Every time you come around.
Come loose your dogs upon me
And let your hair hang down.
You are a little mystery to me
Every time you come around.’

i just don't think face to face complaints are made, because it is out of respect. people want him to do more and so on, but he is doing alot already, so i just feel that people don't complain to him out of respect. he could be doing nothing if he wanted. you know? it isn't a "balls" issue, because i'd tell him how i felt to his face... he won't hit me or anything. not that i have anything that upsets me right now. but yes, i just don't think it is a true thing of like "this is dumb. why doesn't he do this and that. he shouldn't be taking breaks. he needs to tour!" i think it is more of a disappointed complaint that we commonly hear/see. if that made any sense.

ps. if damien did hit me... he would never be capable of playing again

Default Some more Vicar St pics

Very similar to those taken already though I got better ones on the 30th being in the second row though I accidentally let off a flash by accident.
Fab two nights!

Thanks-was just chuffed to be in the 2nd row the 2nd night-magical. I took some video footage but nothing too startling. I am hoping to be in Ireland for a 2 week drive and sight see finishing off hopefully in Dublin with a copy of 9 to take home!!! I have been to the Cork Jazz fest for 18 years now and wonder if there is anywhere better for the Bank Holiday weekend?? )
