Default The Blowers Daughter - true meaning?

Hi all

I'm new to the site and hoping you can help!

I'm getting married next year really want TBD to be the song for our first dance. Looking on this site for the full meaning of the song has got many different opinions! Now I know songs are like that and mean many different things to different people.

Has Damien ever published or said what he meant the song to mean?
Can anyone let me know, if possible breaking it down verse by verse please.

We love this song and really want it to be our song but if it's about two people who can never be together then it might not be a good omen!

Anyone?

I don't remember where I read/heard/saw this, but I'm pretty sure it's about an unrequited love that turns bitter...If you do use it at your wedding, just make sure you fade it out before it gets to "Did I say that I loathe you?"...

Before I read the words to the song I thought that line was "Did I say that I love you" !! So if we do have it I'm hoping other people will think the same!!

I think it is problematic to tell the true meaning (which in in this context must be what Damien is trying to demonstrate). Accordig to my opinion this song is sad. Beatiful, but sad. I think of unhappy or one way love, and the aftermatch of a break up. Anyway, this is only my opinion, and I guess that different people can relate this song to different phases in life, and in that way i may only be a beutiful song. I kind of lost my point, but i guess any song can relate to either happy experience or sad experience, and if both of you relate this song to happy love, i can´t see why you shouldn´t use it.

He ends the song with... "I can't get my mind off of you.... Until I find somebody new" It's a beautiful song but maybe not the best wedding song... just my opinion though.

p.s. from what I understand it was written about his clarinet teachers daughter.

Somebody in the igloo first heard TBD at a funeral service. My advice, pick a different song. Oh, and btw, congrats!

Use "Grow Old Along With Me" - John Lennon. John wrote that song in 1979 in reply to hearing Yoko's Let Me Count the Ways (another great song to chose too, really). He invisioned it as a traditional song you would play at weddings:

Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love

John never finished recording it, and there are 2 versions of it released. One is just the demo him and Yoko made with a piano and a little cymbol thing that appears on the Milk and Honey album. It was the last of the tapes to survive the raping of John's music right after his death. The other vesion is on the Lennon Anthology box set. It's the same demo tape, but now well produced . . . by GEORGE MARTIN! It has beautiful strings on it, bass, and more, which is what john intended for the song. IM me on aim or msn and I can play it for you. It's just beautiful.

*And Blower's Daughter is about his clarinet teacher's daughter. Also, you can tell it's not a happy ending at all when you read the lyrics to the Blower's Daughter Pt 2.

Blower's Daughter Pt2?? Tell me more

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

I think we will have to take our second choice which is "First time ever I saw your face" by the Stereophonics
Again a beautiful song but for me just hasn't got the edge that TBD has. But the lyrics are self explanatory!

Hi nivek and welcome,

Yep, BD2 starts with the lines "This has got to die. This has got to stop. This has got to lie down. With someone else on top...

You can hear "Blower's Daughter part 2" on this very site. Go to the videos section: It's one of the first songs played at the stunning "Paridiso" concert from Amsterdam(scroll down to near the bottom of the videos page for the link).

ok...so. gordonbrown, why the hell would damien write about a BJ? it's about his clarinet teacher's (blower's) daughter. the paradiso is one of the best gigs ever! i think that if you really quite like the song, and it is a great song, you should certainly have it for your wedding song. because if you think about it, how much of your friends and family will really be listening to the words enough to get the meaning of the song? they'll be listening to "i can't take my eyes off you..." and stuff like that. i thought it was "love you" as well, and so will your family if they don't know any better.

In case you havn't noticed, damien writes just about all of his songs about girls, and heartbreaks, which makes them heartwrenching. in this one he talks about how he can't stop thinking about her, he's sorry that he said those things about her, and he likely will get over her when he finds someone new. There's this same trend in basically all of his songs...i won't get into it, because it could take forever, but i will tell you this...

fade in and fade out to give the illusion of the love song (which in it's right it is) and to hid "until i find somebody new" at the end. cheers man, congratulations on your engagement!

and good luck.

Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
Leave it all behind?

I thought those lines were just about what his feelings were for her now, after the whole unrequited love thing had eaten him up and turned him all bitter - a kind of love/hate situation. But I may have got it completely wrong

Default Blowers Daughter meaning

My take is that it is not a good wedding song. No love, no glory, no hero in her sky. Leave it all behind. Find somebody new.
Regret and the struggle of moving on.

The mood of the song is yearning for what you cannot have. The cello yearns very well in this song.

On the other hand I do hear what you may like about it. Can't take my eyes off you, can't take my mind off you. It's just like you said it would be. etc.
