Christina Aguilera covers The Blower's Daughter!!!!!! :(
Christina Aguilera has covered Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice's immensely popular The Blower's Daughter.
The single is a collaboration between Aguilera and Chris Mann, a finalist from US TV talent show The Voice. Mann was part of Aguilera's 'team' on the TV show. The result is pretty different from the much-acclaimed original: and you can even listen to a preview: http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/72427724.html x lots!!!!

She fücked up and said, "Did I say that I LOVE you?"
This is horrible. These fückung awful shows need to stop ripping off his music and making a mockery of fine art. |

I actually got this in my google alerts the other day and couldn't bring myself to post it. Seriously. I didn't want more people to hear it than absolutely necessary hahahahaha
I kinda actually, like... more than Christina or this dude, who I firmly believe could cover it well if they tried, I kinda wanna blame the person that arranged it this way. Like, Blowers Daughter did not need to be a 90s Power Ballad. Can we have the Death Metal version back, please? |

i just got a google alert too... but from a christina aguilera´s forum... i had a quick look and everybody keeps saying how good this cover is and how touching christina´s voice is for the song :S (to be fair, they also praise the original song).
i think everything is a matter of perspective... from my point of view, just diserves no comments...

Can't find it within myself to continue clicking on and reading these ridiculous covers. TBD and Cannonball are being carelessly tossed around like Hallelujah.

I actually don´t understand why you need permission to use a sample but then you can go and do any cover without asking for permission. Imho that´s wrong and cover versions should have artist´s approval... at least x Damo
I guess this got positive reviews in the Christina Aguilera foum, but on YT and other forums the general consensus is that the original is amazing but the cover is an abomination

I don't think any artist would say no to the truckloads of free money successful cover versions bring in

Songs have been covered since 1460 BC....now a few Damien Covers show up and we should all call the BBC or FFC or WhateverTF and ask for a Ban on covering. Its not a big deal..good covers or bad....covers pay respect to the original artist . By the way, you should all check out my cover of Dylan's 'knocking on heaven's door'...not sure it's been done b4 but mine is killer |

The cover may be awful, but the fact that a song gets covered is a sign of it's quality and I think in the end makes the original more well-known and appreciated. Think how many times 'Yesterday' has been covered - but do people think of any of the hundreds of covers or take them as representative of the song? No, the original stays foremost in people's minds and many people discover it through listening to covers.

^ouch... but for instance, if you see on Youtube, most people say that the cover is horrible but the original is amazing

I love Christina Aguilera. I think she's a great singer with a great vocal ability (which is a rare thing to find in nowadays mainstream...), but this cover... it's doing her no good.
To me, it feels like they just wanted to make it "Powerful", strong song, but it turned out as a really bad cover :P |

not sure if I posted the whole thing... the guy is apparently an opera singer or similar... and Aguilera only sings towards the end...

Well, I don't know what opera he sang in, but with that mediocre voice, he wouldn't be taken seriously in any decent production.

Speaking of cover to TBD, have you heard this one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyni32LvWm4 She's one of my favorite singers, and I think she did great! This is how a cover should sound like. |

well, i have to admit that my opinion is affected by being a damien´s fan (i think it always happens regardless the artist who was convered, i might be wrong though), but i think the biggest flaw in this particular version (chris x2) is that they didn´t understand the feeling, they try to show how powerful their voices can be, when the concept behind the song is quite the opposite... it´s about how weak, helpless and exposed someone might be... power has nothing to do with that, imho.

I think the guy is okay on the preview (I enjoyed him just fine on the Voice), but Christina really butchers things. Admittedly, it's likely those were the lyrics she was given... in that case, shame on whoever gave her those wrong lyrics.

I didn't feel like starting a new thread for a similar subject... I just found out Angus Stone released a cover of TBD as well
http://www.news.com.au/entertainment...-1226483387918 I don't like this one either :S I like some of his stuff, he has a nice voice, but why is he always trying to sing like Bob Dylan?

he and his sister are really losing it, I think... I loved A Book Like This but everything they did since then is disappointing... and this cover is awful. I agree with your Bob Dylan comment, Eva... Anyway, thanks for sharing!

That blew! I'm bummed because I use to really like them. It might have been nice if he sang it like he does in mango tree or draw your swords.
You shouldn't be allowed to call yourself a singer songwriter if you're gonna just speak the lyrics. Speaker/songcoverer. And a shítty one at that. Actually I gave never heard a Damien cover that is good. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Last edited by Shillelagh; 11-30-2012 at 01:31 PM. |
