Just going back through the old threads and I found this...notice the original starting date! For those of you *cough*Jeweller*cough* who've been around for awhile, are you upset that Damien has gotten more popular and that people over in the US and the rest of Europe are into him now and the venues are slowly getting bigger and bigger?

that topic is more than a year old!!! pure madness!

ive changed my feeling about damiens music alot since then... ive grown to know that he will(is) be a commercial success... with 167,000 albums in america thats pretty obvious... i suppose ill miss the intimacy of it all... thinking back to the olympia even indecember 2002... even that was a huge step up for him... his big headlining gig in ireland and me and my mates were sitting around the side of the olympia when damo strolls past with a guitar in his hand and stops and has a chat and says "so are ya headin into the gig" and we look dumb and all say "eh yes..." and he smiles and strolls off... that magic will be lost but his music wont be...

i wonder if damien will want to do larger gigs...

he seems to enjoy the intamicy and i think that he would know that his music suits the small venue.

I know they have to increase in size a little, but again, i think we all know damien isn't about money...

so then maybe he will choose to stay at smaller venues and sell out in two seconds...

i can only hope

Damo hasn't made it big in the Netherlands yet i guess, although he got some great reviews in the magazines the last couple of months. The venues he's playing are still small though, let's hope it stays that way. About mums liking Damo, mine is coming along to see him on the 25th of february in Paradiso...

I used to think like that, just like I used to begin trends and as soon as ppl followed them in my school ,I gave them up. But that's stupid!
If you like something, it shouldn't be because of the number of other persons who like it as well, but because of... err let's say its essence.
If becoming really big in such or such country prevents Damien from writing good music, then I might turn towards other artists.
But if the music stays as beautiful, I'll stay a fan!

Well said!!

It's just one of those things, that more people want to see the gigs, so bigger venues. Unfortunate as it is, its the industry.

And on the damo converts,....none of my mates listen to him. One or two of them, respect his music and what he's at, but they dont listen to his album. I converted my girlfriend, to the point where she's looking to borrow my cd's (which didnt happen! I gave her copies), but i think she's fed up of listening to him. I've every show i downloaded on cd, so theres always one playing in the car radio. Overkill!!

My mam shocked the sh*t out of me the other week by going to see Aslan in Vicar St. with her friend. Not that there was anything wrong with that, but if you knew my mam. Other than owning a few Frank Sinatracd's (and never listening to them) she doesnt have any interest in music whatsoever.Edited by: daol20

And 21+ concerts. Sometimes when bands here in the States play at smaller bars or clubs they make it 21+ to reap the benefits of alcohol. Or something like that, I know the booze is the main factor for the age limits.

also, when you get for instance an over 14's gig, the band has the pay more for the venue (cos less booze sold) and have to be on stage earlier and get out earlier.

crap really.

One of the best gigs of my life going to see them play in the village and seeing the legend that is peter green!! he could barely play guitar and just looked like he was seriously melted!

went up to him after and i asked his manager could i say a few words to him and he said "we dont normally but go on" so i said "peter your a f**kin inspiration to all of us" and he smiled and said "keep on rockin" in a mad american accent
