Howdy peeps... I'm going shopping for a new acoustic guitar on Wed. Has anyone got a new acoustic of late? If so, whats it been like and would you recommend it?

Cheers and Happy Christmas,
TJ

I live in the U.S. so I'm not sure my input matters since I don't know what selection you have over there, but....

I'm assuming you're looking at low-end pricing. As far as low end ($200-$500) guitars usually go, I have always had the best experience playing Ibanez, Alvarez, Seagull (canadian-made), and more specifically Takamine. I think out of the whole lower-mid price range ($200-$1000) Takamine has done the best job of making a quality sounding guitar for that price.

Actually, as of my recent music shoppe trip, I can't stop thinking about how I should have bought a Takamine instead of my Martin Dm. I feel like I'm having a love affair.

Anyway I hope that helps, and play a lot of different things before you buy!

has anyone here ever tried a lowden? Damo uses the O10. i've been looking at some online. some have great reviews with the occasional bad one. depends on what you're looking for i suppose. But if anyone here has one or has tried one, please let me know what it's like! i would love to try one. and maybe buy.

I have played the f series and the stage series. The stage series was outstanding and is still owned by a friend of mine who refuses to sell it. It is my understanding that Lowden is no longer making guitars but they are made under the Avalon brand name, I spoke to a dealer who used to sell Lowden but he does not carry the Avalon series because according to him, some are still made in Ireland, some in Japan and the supply chain is very convoluted and there is great variation in the quality of these. That being said if you can find a Lowden made before 2002 it would be a quality investment, although if you have never played one the bodies are BIG..I play a Martin 000-16 and it looks like a banjo comapred to a Lowden...hope that helps.
