I haven't heard much Jack Johnson stuff, but from what I HAVE heard I'd have to agree that Coconut Skins isn't really very similar to his stuff

on topic, i have heard 9 crimes and rootless tree, and if the rest of the album is half as good as them then i will be beyond happy.
Make sure you don't have pop-ups disabled. You can just make the site an exception if you do.

9 is dissapointing for me. After one listen, i just thought "is that it?" I was hoping for a hidden song in the 15 minutes of annoying noise at the end of Sleep Don't Weep. I love the mellow, more tuneful songs overall, which is why I prefer O so much more. The "heaviest" song on O was "I Remember". I like Animals, but the chorus is a let down to me as is the last minute (I love instrumentals but the end of this song reminds me of a closing scene of a cheesey musical from the 70's). Elephant is brilliant and actually reminds me of Blowers daughter. I don't like the chorus on Rootless Tree but i like the rest of it. It finishes strong with accidental babies, grey room, and sleep dont weep. But I was expecting more. 9 crimes and elephant are my favourite (i voted for 9 crimes). The rest are nothing special to me(after 4 or 5 listens). I hope it grows on me but i wont be holding my breath for the next 5 year, wait ing for Damien's next CD.

I like these songs a lot:
9 crimes
Elephant
Accidental Babies
Grey Room

Sleep Dont Weep and Animals are pretty good.

I dont like the other 4, and since they all come in a row, it kind of kills the CD for me.

If i had to pick 10 songs from both O and 9 to make a CD i would choose

Blowers Daughter
Eskimo
Delicate
Volcano
Cannonball
Older chests
9 crimes
Elephant
Accidental Babies
Grey Room

And then maybe (since Damien has a long track to end his album) i would put in cross-eyed bear or the rat within the grain in as a hidden track.

Thumbs up Elephanto

I would have loved if he went into a bit of the blowers daughter at the end of elephant like he has done in so many of his gigs- an amazing song

Don't worry Nialler, I'll post another poll in a few weeks once everyone has had a chance to digest the album fully. It'll be interesting to see how much will change.

I'm so surprised that the favourite seems to be the animals were gone - it's the only one on the album that does nothing for me. I'll admit it's grown on me, at first i really thought it was dull - now i think it's ok. Still does nothing though.

I guess that's still not common knowledge for the newer/casual fans: "Elephant" is the sequel to "Blower's Daughter". In fact, Damo had always called it "The Blower's Daughter pt.2" when he played it live.

Amazed anybody could listen to "Animals" and be untouched or indifferent. So beautiful. So musically and lyrically dazzling. So different than anything else he's done. Like a heavenly hybrid of Jim Croce, Jacqueline DuPre and "The Wizard of Oz"

Well that sure seems to be the feelings of everyone except me - which is odd, seeing as I usually have the typical likes when it comes to Damien. That said, I have listened to it a little more, and now I like it - but I still don't love it like the rest of them. I absolutely adore the lyrics though - they are beautiful - I think it's just the chorus melody that I don't enjoy so much.
Odd though. Maybe i've lost my marbles eh?

Same for me, I love the lyrics and the music except for the chorus melody. But after hearing it live I have to admit he's improved it a lot, maybe it's just a bit faster but that make the song perfect. And the very last part of it is awesome

You took the words right out of my mouth! I was going to say that
Damo inserts Blower's Daughter into Pt. 2 live, and inserts "Creep" into Blower's Daughter live. Both little seques sound awesome.

I have to say that while I still love "9 Crimes" and "Accidental Babies" I am really, really liking "Rootless Tree." Maybe because of the raw emotion he sings with when he's singing it live.

and I agree, "Animals" is beautiful. Simple and beautiful.

I voted Rootless Tree from the days of the AOL streaming, but now having listened to it over and over for a week, one of my initial least favourites is now my favourite.
I am so in love with Grey Room now!!!

Still not getting anything from Dogs though.

The album gets better with each listen. I was disappointed at first, but it's better. Accidental Babies is the favourite.

i agree with you. i wasn't "bowled over" at first, and nothing stuck out. i voted "9 crimes" because that piano melody has haunted me for days! i also like the ending of "the animals were gone". liking the use of drums, the variation from O, and the lyrics.

I voted for 'rootless tree' but it was a tough choice for me, 'dogs' is a close second and '9 crimes' and 'elephant' are so beautiful too.

It has grown a lot on me too. Now I think that 9 is brilliant. I voted for Grey room (as you might have guessed from my signature) because I can't get song out of my head. I even dream about it.

If I could vote now I would definitely vote for Rootless tree...I've always loved this song, but now (esp after that stunning slower version he played last week) it's become my favourite
