Damien said in a Today FM interview that it's about loads of different things.. it just popped out of nowhere while he was riding a bike, he thought it sounded really good, it sounded right, and when he thought about it more afterwards he thought it really connects aswell because many of the songs were about relationships not working, the cyclical patterns we have in life trying to find whats right and never fixing it, making the same mistakes.. and the song Amie has the line 'read me the story of O' and CDs are round and they go round in circles.

why am i always the one bringing up the erotic novel 'story of o'? anyway, there is such a thing; from the 19th century, i think. i heard that 'o' doesn't directly refer to that one (think it was magnus who told me this), but could also be an aspect... basically the novel 'story of o' is about submission and power in a sexual relationship - pretty kinky stuff, but not 'just' pornography.

I've read in an article that 'O' refers to the 'Story of O'...Doesn't he want Amie to read him the Story of O? Isn't O a dominatrix? Maybe he feels he likes to be dominated by women... |

The mother of a friend i had back in highschool had the illustrated version.. We flipped through the pages.. and from what I remember, it's about a girl who meets a guy and he ties her up, "tortures" her and f**ks her. It's in black and white.. It think i read it in french, but but most of the dialogues consisted in "Gnnnn", "Aaah" and "Oooh"! I was very disapointed to hear a reference tothat bookin that gorgeous chorus. It ruins the romantism of the moment, imo, but maybe that's what he wanted.. a strong, sexual image.I prefer to see "O" as a circle, like he said!Edited by: Catherine |

He only discovered about the book called 'the Story of O' after he had the song written...

Yeah, that was what I thought as well, but he did kindof tell me that that phrase was referring to something a friend of his said and that it could be that it indirectly is referring to the book without him knowing it at first. And he has changed the line into "old"/"O" instead of"old" / "love" like it was in the Juniper version. Right? However, I don't personally find this topic too engaging. I never think of that book when I hear the song or read the name of the album. I have no problem withothers discussing it, but all I wanted to know was if I had been mistaking the role of the bearerof the nameO in the book, regardless of any connection with the song. Thanks for putting the discussion back on track Loveless!
