Default Damo's guitar.

Hey everyone, I know this has been asked already but my search turned out several pages and I didn't feel like going through each one. Anyway, does anyone happen to know what brand of guitar Damien's acoustic is? And if any of you were at the Oakland show last night, any idea what kind of electric he was using? I was trying to make it out but I think they covered the brand name or perhaps it was a custom. And while we're on the subject, I need to go buy some new strings for both my acoustic and electric...any suggestions? I currently have D'Addarios on both and wouldn't exploring a bit. Thanks in advance. Peace.

"His guitar is a Japanese made Lowden, built between 1980 and 1985, it looks like an S10 which the modern day equivalent of a Lowden O10 or indeed a Mahogany / Cedar O35." ~ George Lowden

I use D'Addarios too. I have tried Martin and they are good too (for acoustic)... but taking the fact that I have a 50$ cheap ass guitar negates the aforementioned statement. :P

The electric he normally uses for live gigs is a custom Fender Telecaster - the black one with the maple fretboard yes? It's a beast, i love it and it's beauty.

Yeah, that was exactly it! It sounded so phenomenal. Thanks for all the tips guys. By the way, any idea about what strings he uses on both guitars? Peace.

There's one of the modern day equivalents without a cutaway.

ooh that's in my price range. I've been looking for a new guitar for ages - and have been saving everything I make... I have a budget of up to £1700... I'd like to try out this before buying the Larivee I was going to get, because I adore the sound Damien's guitar gives out...

Damien also plays a Martin...I think he is transitioning from the Lowden to the Martin slowly, so he won't upset us.

Ah nice. What model of Martin?
I will miss the Lowden if it ever leaves... It's got such character.

He plays on a Baby Taylor too.
Guys who play acoustic stuff out there, try the Martin SP strings. SP for Studio Pro. I just discovered those and they sound wayyy better than ANY strings I've tried before (d'addarios, Dean Markley...). Even the 1st and 2nd strings are bronze.

I've just spoken to George Lowden himself and got a quote... Tis more than I thought, unless he meant to type a euro sign rather than a £ !

£2470 including delivery. He was really nice actually, we had a good little chat about Damien! Oh and incidentally, he said Damien is currently looking at buying a new model from him - they're 'in talks' apparently

Anyhoo, I just found today an Avalon which is so frighteningly similar to Damien's Lowden (they're made by the same people) - but it's 2nd hand, and in perfect condition. It's £1099, and would retail new at £2000ish - and I fell in love with it instantly. Tomorrow, it will be mine. I am SO excited. David Gray plays one, apparently.

Great! Well, if the Avalon suits you best, there's no point in spending an extra 1000 quid; it's lucky you suited the cheaper one!

Well actually new they retail at almost the same - because the Lowden price I mentioned includes shipping and VAT, whereas the Avalon one doesn't - if I include vat and shipping with that it would be about £2300 new... but I was lucky to find it 2nd hand at £1099 - it's absolutely pristine...

Damn, I've never been so excited! I didn't realise at the time either that Avalons are the same people that make Lowdens... It's almost identical, just not cutaway

I think the current exchange rate from Pounds to Dollars at the moment is almost exactly double... so £1099 would be around $2200ish, perhaps a little less.
