I agree Mojo! (as you know already). I must admit I was a bit disappointed at the Tivoli (Helling) gig, having got my hopes up after hearing my brother's stories of seeing him do a great show in Boulder, Colorado. Was expecting the stories and jokes and there weren't any. And the people around me were so grumpy too. Last night though was perfect! Just how a gig should be!!!! |

Does anybody have the setlist? I am dying to get my hands on it.... I know somebody who's busy putting up photos and some movieclips of the gig, so hold on.

Hi, Í've only recently discovered Damien, but I must say that I'm already hooked!!!
I also went to see him play in Amsterdam, although I almost didn't go because I had nobody to go with since my friends aren't really into the same music i am. But I'm so glad I went by myself, it was really refreshing to see a "serious" singer-songwriter actually having a good time, because some just take themselves too seriously. In reply to the comment about the gig being taped: apparently it wasn't being taped for any particular reason, I inquired about it myself through info@damienrice.com. But maybe if more people do, something will be done with the recording |

Angela, thanks for welcomming me (i'm dutch by the way, not german!)
Question: I might be horribly wrong, but the person in your picture looks like the delightful Emmet Tinley from Prayerboat, am I right? |

I hoped "velkommen" was Dutch? (It's "willkommen" auf Deutsch & I'm originally from Berlin.)
Yes, yes! It's Emmett! Do you know him??? He lives in Amsterdam. |

Angela: Yes I know him, he's absolutely wonderful, I love Polichinelle and can't wait for his solo album, I've heard that the new songs are really good.
I'm not sure whether he still lives in Amsterdam, but I know that he used to. When he did he played the Paradiso regularly and i've seen him play live many times, although I missed his gig in december |

Apparently he was at Josh Ritter's acoustic gig in Paradiso in January. Would have loved to have met him but wouldn't have recognised him then anyway. I had only heard one song by him, on the Other Voices CD, but have since listened to some mp3 samplesfrom Polichinelle. Defo want to get my hands on that album. I think he has the most amazing voice... especially when he sings Closer to Happy (on Other Voices). Sends shivers down my spine. |

What's this Other Voices album, I've heard it mentioned a few times already?
As far as other material from prayerboat/emmet tinley, there is another cd, Oceanic Feeling, but that one is no longer available, you'll have to look for it 2nd hand. It's not nearly as good as Polichinelle though.Edited by: damien addict |

I think it's only available in Ireland (I ordered it from Irish Music Mail and got it posted over). It's from a series of acoustic sessions in a church, organised by Glen Hansard of The Frames. It was on TV in Ireland, and then they released a CD with some of the songs from it - Damien Rice, Josh Ritter, Emmet Tinley, Mark Geary, The Frames, and lots of others. |

dear eskimos
It was a very nice evening, even when one, like me, wasn't familiar with the album. I liked old chest (time) and scorn and of course the acoustic-going josh, bis bis!!!! And what was that kumbaya-type song they started playing as a joke and then got such cheers from the crowd they played the whole thing with everyone clapping along? In the highways: carter family, more like a ritter type of song i guess, but it was nice. when you seen the obrother where art thou movie, you could recognize the three little dauthers of clooney, its on the soundtrack. cheers twostars |

Yeah, that's it! I knew I recognised it at the time, but then after the concert I couldn't remember what it was anymore. Carter family indeed! Nice one TwoStars! |
