Most of the people there werent familiar with Damien. Lisa walked right through the tent and i was the only one who went up and said anything. She was standing right by me looking out into the rain and i didnt even notice her until ten mintues later when i looked to see how bad the weather was getting and saw her standing right in front of me. But overall the show was fantastic. Probably one of the best shows i have ever seen. |

hey, I was front row, right center, I saw the camcorder, it was on the right side of the stage on one of the steal supports to the tent. Wish I would have stuck around to see damien, I didn't think he would come out

just got back from bonnaroo, and wow! what an incredible
experience! i first spotted ole' damo during the kings of leon show (which was in the same tent that he was set to play in later that day). he went up onto the sound stage, gave this massive sound technician looking guy a hug, then watched the show for about 10 minutes, kinda bobbing his head to the music. ill also add that he was carring this bag (looked like a purse... for a man) with a hemp leaf on it. i watched him leave, and im kicking myself for not going up to him and saying hey. i arrived at damien's tent at about 6:45 (his show started at 8) and the thing was already packed. i was able to get a really good position up close to the stage because of the enormous mud puddle that this huge rain storm had left behind in the tent. people tossed around balloons and balls until the start of the show. the crowd started going nuts about 10 minutes before he came out onto the stage, alone with no band. he said 'thank you' and started right into the blowers daughter part 2. AMAZING! it is so emotional live. this version of the song had a different ending than i was used to tho, screaming/falstetto singing the entire opening verse after the craziness part, and then adding 'but you cant make me happy, quite as good as me, well you know thats a lie' at the end. then the band came out and damien announced that tomo wouldnt be joining them because he has a volcano growing out of his finger. he then played delicate, followed played woman like a man, as a request from the crowd. he mentioned that it would sound weird without tomo, and that it did, but it was still awesome! afterwords, he played cold water ("dedicated to everyone who got wet," it was pretty rainy) and transitioned into jeff buckley's allelujah. cannonball followed; that is, like bd2, exteremly touching live. damo then put his guitar down on a chair to drum along to lisa singing nina simone's be my husband. after this group of just amazingly awesome songs, damien went into an elongated amie, with spaceship effects and all. he even threw in a cool improv about bonnaroo, talking about the degree of heat, the nice people, and ridiculing himself for playing the same song for such a long time. 'i'm so tired of playing' he then proceded to sing about people in the crowd (a man with glasses up over his cap, a man with a camera in his hand, people with microphones) and more weather. i think that my dad was the man with the camera, he got some INCREDIBLE pictures; ill put a URL up to them later, they are totally worth checking out. then he played eskimo, dedicating it to 'anybody whos got one of those friends that no matter what you do, no matter how you f**k them over, no matter how you f**k anybody else over, no matter how many mistakes you make, they still take you into their arms.' and talked a little about how people that he'd met at bonnaroo are like that. damien played volcano and i remember to finish up the first set. an interesting note: he played a short cover of kylie menogue(?)'s 'cant get you out of my head' during i remember. for the encore, he treated us to the professor (lisa on la fille danse and then damien on a slightly different version and one hell of a long note before la da da dum) and the blowers daughter (lisa on electric guitar), as well as a solo from vyvienne (the white stripes 7 nation army). she seemed really nervous, but played really well and threw in a short snippet about goin to bonnaroo. damien even came back out and did some drumming on his guitar with her. in the end, damien said the we had been a 'f**king amazing audience.' which i think is true. i had a great time at the show, this was number 2 for me, and i hope to see him many times in the future. damn i wish i could have met him! SET LIST the blower's daughter part 2 delicate woman like a man cold water allelujah cannonball be my husband amie eskimo volcano i remember the professor the blower's daughter 7 nation army |

i saw damien walk right in front of me during the kings of leon show also but couldn't believe my eyes at first that it was him. he was wearing some kind of skirt thing and had a guy purse thing with a pot leaf on it. by the time i came to my senses and tried to find him he had disapeared and i am so mad for not going up to meet him. bonnaroo was incredible. |

Actually, I think Damien was telling the truth. I was lucky enough to speak with him a bit after his (amazing - more on that later) set, and he said that Tomo indeed had a bit of an infection on his finger. That, on top of being a new father . . . While he was missed, his absence did not detract at all from Damien's amazing set. I will try to write more tomorrow. Must get to bed . . .

I was just reading a review of Bonnaroo on rollingstone.com and allthough it doesn't mention damo, it did say something about an Aussi guy called Xavier Rudd being one of the (unexpected)highlights. I checked out his website, his stuff sounds allright. Did anyone go see him?

I saw Xavier Rudd. It wasnt his own personal performance though. He played in one of the bigtents and then played on the sonic sound stage where they do interviews. It was right by the Cats Music Tent and the beer tasting tent. I watched for about 30 minutes and then it started to rain so i headed over to Damien. He sounded really good, but the band My Morning Jacket kept on drowning him out because he was on a tiny little interview stage.

Nope, no drummer. But you kind of forgot about it once Damien got going - so damn intense.

"Why yes, I think I am. Falsetto vocals, chord changes, blah blah blah..As for my lack of knowledge, you got me. Last time I saw Dave was over a decade ago while visiting friends with my ex in VA at some rather small bar which escapes me now. I can tell you it sounds all the same with the predictable formula that left us at that time unimpressed even though my gf gave him thumbs up on being hot. I betcha a 6 pack that if we played one of xavier's sound bytes to someone and asked who they thought it was they would say DM." Thats ridiculous...Xavier sounds nothing like dave. falsetto and chord changes are something most singer songwriters do. damo dabbles in the falsetto a good bit, even josh ritter does. And a dave show 10 years ago in a small virginia bar would be a treat. in 1994 they were alreay mainstream so seeing them go back to their roots would be a rarity...i am suprised you got in. plus dave 10 years ago wasnt predictable because that band fueled a new jam band movement which means there was a lot of jamming going on...a lot of jazz influenced jamming which is in no way predictable. dave didnt get predictable until he released the space between album. his shows are a little dull now days and packed with 15 year old girls, but back in 94 he was all about the jam...he is in a band with high quality musicians, xavier is not...how you drew the comparison with dave and xavier i do not know. both are amazing in their own way, but not similar in sound. |

haha, i'd rather not... it's late and i must sleep... but you got me... they both play an instrument and sing therefore they are one and the same... i'm laying on the sarcasm pretty thick here if you can't tell... it just upsets me when people are so quick to judge and compare artists when they base it upon false information... it just gets filed under the category of "know what you're talking about or don't talk at all"... i'm not trying to be a dick here... this just hits a sore spot for me...
