Default Is there a bongo being used in the Drum Solos?

Hello,

I'm new here, I was wondering if anyone knew what exactly Damien's second guitarist plays during the drum solos. Not the actual kit, but he plays something that I'm pretty sure is bongos but not entirely. Does anyone know?

I've tried searching the forum already for "bongos", "drum solo", "live instruments", and "live drums", but have had no luck.

Thanks

Oh and you can see him play it sort of in this video before he moves onto the actual kit.

it's a peruvian cajon (box) drum. tomo was playing it at the minneapolis show in may. i was so intrigued by it that i searched around until i figured out what it was. i think it belongs to damien since it stuck around through three drummers last tour. his is bright red.

it almost sounds like a complete kit when it's played, it's amazing the sounds you can get out of it. some of them even come with guitar strings strung on the interior which gives them a sound much like a snare. there's a demo of an australian guy playing one called the rockbox here and a whole page with info about them and links to manufacturers here

by the way, welcome to the igloo

SisterMidnight, thanks so much, I was getting a bit hopeless that I wouldn't find out what that cool sounding percussion was. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a cajon around town now
