Don't bother with play.com, there's no point in paying for mp3's when you can just buy the record and make mp3's... Road Records will post out your copy so just wait until they start taking orders for it, that's the fastest and easiest way to get the album.

9 really is a wierd choice for an album name, but i guess it is just a name, i bet there's 9 tracks.

I doubt there would be a great disparity between the Irish and American release dates. While they may be different, I think they'll be within a week of each other. I mean, lest we forget, Damien has that deal with Warner Bros.

Well, im not so sure i trust play.com. They have claimed various release dates in the past for Chinese Democracy (Guns N Roses's new album), and each time theyve been bull****ting

The record label he's signed to wouldn't really make much of a difference, all Irish artists release albums in Ireland before they put them out in the UK and the US, the production for the different territories might be the difference between making ten thousand and ten million copies of the album, after all they do have to produce enough to satisfy demand. I'd expect at least a wait of a month if not more.

Well if they try to do that demand will outstrip supply and it'll end up selling out the first run, and then people will have to wait.

but it's warner brothers... don't they always release their big acts at the same time around the world? i'm sure they'll be able to cope.

Warner Bros. is an American company and does business gloablly. It's not like he has distribution only in Europe. I'm sure Warner, also a publicly traded company, wants to get the biggest bang for its buck, and would release the album on as broad a scale as possible at once, and not wait a month to release in the US. A week earlier in Ireland is normal, but it's not like Warner is using Ireland as a testing ground for the album. He's already been tested, which is why he has the deal in the first place.

plus, I doubt 10 million copies would need to be made...

I'm curious as to why they have it but nobody else seems to have mention of it. Is this typical with them?

That they do, but in Damien's case it's somewhat irrelevant, because his national distribution is the only territory that Time/Warner specifically don't have control over, to the best of my knowledge that gem is still under DRM's thumb. I'm sure the international release will be quite a well managed affair, but it won't be handled by the same people who'll be handling the Irish release, whether or not that means a synchronised woldwide release I don't know. But what it does mean is that DRM have an entirely seperate level of control to Time/Warner in Irish distribution. A lot of artists have similar deals, it's happened before with people like The Frames, Josh Ritter and Bell X1, obviously their differing levels of international popularity puts them at odds with Damien, but I guess at the end of the day it is a business thing.

Eskimo's outside Ireland shouldn't have to worry about it though, Road Records will surely be posting out copies of the album two days before it's Irish release. They've always done it that way in the past, so for anyone stateside, that'll be the fastest way to get your hands on a copy.

yeah, or zero "0"... god that'd be confusing.

Anyway, if it is "9" we can look forward to another few years of intrepid music journalists asking damien probing questions such as

"So Damien, why did you call the album 9?".

or maybe it's some english-german-english translation error and the name is "No". "No" - "Nein" - "9"

"No" would be a good name. Perhaps an abbreviation of "Not O"...

Yep, it's Friday and I'd rather spend the day lost in reverie following the meanderings of a directionless mind than actually do any work.
