Default Meanings & Interpretations of "I Remember"?

It's somewhat pitiful to admit but I wasn't aware of Damien Rice until "The Blower's Daughter" was included in the trailer and soundtrack for the movie "Closer". Since then, I've had the pleasure of getting to know his work and I enjoy it so much.

My current favorite song is "I Remember". It's got an unusual split in between the female and male vocal portions and how the tone of the song turns almost on a dime between the two. I was curious to know if anyone recalls seeing or reading anything from Damien Rice or others who had thoughts or ideas as to the meaning of "I Remember"?

I'm curious to know the thought process behind it..

Thanks!

Essentially it's 2 songs, one is about the start of the relationship and how he's happy and optimistc, the second bit is how she ****ed him over. He couldn't get them to work as individual songs and binned them until Vyv heard them one day and suggested playing them together.

i really like the contrast. cos lisa's voice sounds so mellow and everythings all happy but then the line "nothing is taking me down..except you, my love" is really melancholy. then damien's part is so aggressive..its great!!

Nice to know the litlle story about it, Ian. It was a brilliant idea of Vyv, it sounds very dramatic, opera like

But the juniper version (I remember december) has both parts mixed together.

True, but thats the story that Damien has been telling at gigs. Perhaps he was referring to the music itself, the finger picking Lisa section and his rockier part. You have to admit, the Juniper version is horrendous.

Yea it could be that, there isn't a lot going on musically in the juniper version.
