This week Once was on Kermode again, named Film of the Week in the UK and is praised a lot by Mr K, the meanest and best film critic I know of.

The Swell Season live on KCRW
Check this out, it's a live in-studio performance by The Swell Season on KCRW. Zoom in to 29:00, that's where the performance starts. There's also an interview with Glen Hansard, AND he mentions Damien in the interview. I'll leave it to you to find out what he said about Damien, eh
Here's the link: http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/s...e_swell_season Just click on the "Listen" button, they really sound good live! |

Ok, well according to Glen in the interview, the movie "Once" was actually supposed to have Cillian Murphy as the main star, so it would have been Cillian and Marketa, with Glen writing the songs. But then Cillian pulled out for some reason. So Glen said he recommended Damien to star since, according to Glen, "Damien was slightly younger than I am, n the character was meant for someone who was 21".
So John Carney(the director) apparently talked to Damien, but came back to Glen, n told Glen that since he wrote the songs, it would make more sense if he played the part. Well, we all know how it ended. BUT, just imagine, if Damien had starred in it.... I'm sure Damien would have made a fine actor Oh, and it's not the same performance as the one on KCRW in July. But, here's the link for that performance, it's pretty darn good too. http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/m...ansard_and_mar OOh, check out the cute pics of Glen and Marketa... |

I just listened to the whole July performance and realised that it's actually the same one KCRW put on in October. Well, the only difference is the first song they played in the July one. They sang "Lies" first in the July one, but everything else is the same, even the interview.
Yeah, so I would recommend just listening to the second link I 've just put up, the July one instead. |

I'm glad Glen played the part because he shares a connection with Mar that goes beyond a role. The guy being played by Damien or Cillian just doesn't click right in my head.

Yeah, I agree. Damien's got a coldness on stage, a distance that wouldn't connect with Mar's character. Glen's the only Guy for the role; he's warm, friendly and sincere, and that's what the role needed, IMO.

Yeees actually i was really glad that Damien didn´t play the role ..... i think my image of him would´ve changed and not for the good!..... but for some reason Glen just fits perect and doesn´t make me feel like he´s a sellout or anything... he just fits the role and i love him even more !!!
i don´t think i eeeever want to see damien as the actor in a movie ... am i the only one that feels this way? :S:S

He used to act. I think Simon (Revelate) had some very funny stills...

I wouldn't mind seeing Damien in the/a movie.
But Glen was great so it turned out good. But I would've liked it if they had cast Lisa instead of Marketa as the girl. Quote:

Why do you think that's an act?

Damien just cannot fit in my mind with Guy... Imagine the music store scene with the song "Rising Slowly" all about his John Thomas

Here are my pics from the San Francisco show. Funny to note, somebody in the audience gave aay bootlegs from san fran august show and also some live dvd bootleg. I'm not sure if they are trying to do some viral marketing there or that it was completely illegal. I only managed to get the bootleg audio recording. |

The Austin show last night was incredible! Glen and Mar are so dynamic! Austin loved them so much, they came out for 3 encores! Glen finally made us leave by us snap and sing "Devil Town" as we walked away from the stage. It was spectacular. I'm really excited to get this dvd off dime.
