Default Coconut Skins

I'd love some feedback on my cover of Coconut Skins. It's only vocals. www.myspace.com/laurenmbledsoe

Hey Lauren It sounds out of tune in parts. You do have a beautiful voice though, I can tell that from your cover I listened to you yesterday. Your voice is very similar to Lisa's too, I don't know whether that's natural or imitation

If you sang it all with no music to guide you it's pretty good.
It's not easy to stay on pitch with no reference, and I think your voice (when on pitch) is beautiful!
You sound a bit hard/angry here and there, and a bit in a rush sometimes, but I see lots of potential!

Lauren, that cover was sensational! You have a very beautiful voice, definitely similar to Lisa's. I really admire you for being able to sing it without any music and to be that on pitch - I almost felt like I was listening to Lisa sing it acapella. My only criticism would be that you petered out on the lalalas, but besides that, it was awesome. Thanks for uploading it again.

haha i tried to do something different on the la la las and make it all dramatic cause i felt like straight vocals would get tedious. Thank you so much for the support, you just made my day! I was pretty down on my voice, so those comments really made me feel so much better!

You shouldn't be Lauren, you have such a potentially great voice. With a bit of coaching on your tuning in parts, you could be amazing Your voice could send me to sleep (in the good way!)

I agree with whats been said, its not technically always in tune, but I couldnt keep my voice in tune either if I was doing it A Capella. The paticular points that need improvement were the first two lines in the chorus (funny to hear an American say arse) keep practising, and if I was you pick up a guitar and learn to play, its a waste of talent not to know an instrument to accompany your voice.

Very promising

Thom

I'd say try piano first actually, although i play guitar and only a tiny bit of piano. Reason being is that the things you learn on piano are universal and easily transferable as far as theory is concerned. Obviously it's personal preferance, but even so. In fact, you could learn both!

If you bother to map the fretboard and take note of the individual notes in a chord this is just as easy as doing it on a piano. Guitar also has the bonus of being easily moveable, so you have the oppertunities to play open mics etc.

Indeed, it's far easier picking up guitar basics (i.e. enough to get you by) than it is piano

lauren your voice is brilliant!

very lisa hannigen esque which is awsome, i dont know why your embarrest, its a very good voice, in fact id love to hear some with music behind you, the tuning problems may simply because you have no tune to stick to, which can let your voice stray at times.

so if you ever get more up, make sure you let us know, and i totally agree with the other guy, i love the way you say 'arse' hehe

haha the reason I said "arse" is because if my mom manages to find the site, and hears me cuss, well bad things could happen. haha she wouldn't recognize arse, hence my using it. sorry if it sounds stupid and fake, but better safe than sorry! haha thanks so much for all the support! I play a little piano and am trying to play the guitar. I'm going to record some nine crimes while playing the piano and then post it either tonight or tomorrow. Thanks everyone, I just love you guys!

p.s.
i guess changing ass to arse is pretty much pointless considering if my mom ever heard the line "you can lie between his legs and go searching for, tell him your searching for his soul" shed go insane haha but I wasn't even about to mess with such genius lyrics! I'm willing to sacrifice for art haha

That's the problem.
What i'm trying to say is that on piano, it's all layed out for you. Obviously, it's just personal preference.
