Default Ed Sheeran on meeting Damien

I'm not really a fan of him but I remember someone here mentioned that he listed Damien as one of his inspirations.

I just saw this on a site and I thought it was worth posting it
There's MTV special called "Nine Days and Nights of Ed Sheeran" where he said:

Quote:
Sheeran recalls how he saw Rice at a secret gig in Dublin when he was a preteen. "That day definitely changed my life… If Damien Rice had been a d*ck, I’d probably work in a supermarket. Literally, five minutes of his time has created my whole trajectory, my path, my life," he says, later adding, "It takes no time to be nice. It takes more effort to be a prick."

I think I was the one mentioning it I kinda liked Ed Sheeran before he got megafamous Actually, Ed has a song in which he mentions Damien, this song called You Need Me I Don´t Need You ("I won't stop till my name's in lights
/At stadium heights with Damien Rice")

But I never saw the picture! How did he get one? Must be from the very early days when Damo was still taking pics with fans!

http://www.mtv.com/content/news/2014...an_tattoo_map/

you´ll find Damo´s signature close to his left wrist

Damien Rice Signature
Ed proudly sports this ink of the autograph he got from his "idol",Irish singer Damien Rice from when he was 11 years old.

That sig is what's truly rare. He "did me a drawing" once and I've took some pics with him and Lisa. He'll give hugs and have long chats with you but he refuses to autograph anything.

cool. So back in 2003 i was the only guy to get an autograph after the (wonderful) show (in munich) - and "he did me a drawing" - of myself.
So something i can never show to anyone because of its mere ugliness. boogey boogey boogey

Chrysler, did you really just call his drawing ugly?
That's blasphemy!

yes, it's really special
Also its sketched into the first print of O (ok there wasn't much else around back then) - so i am gonna be increeeeedibly rich if i ever aution it of at sotheby's, which naturally i am not gonna do.

and something stupid to finish with: damien inquired back if he should let the others (tomo, shane, viv, lisa) let sign it as well - which i turned down since the whole thing was awkward to me and i didnt want to bother them.

sorry for my bad english - i was not "the only guy to get an autograph"
i was the only guy to have happened to come into the backstage area to ask for an autograph - i was the only fan there at that time. So i happened to be lucky to get the above drawing + autograph

Lucky you!
Yeah, you should definitely hang on to that album.

(And there's nothing wrong with your English... It's a lot better than my German )

i think he said in an interview that after he saw damien for the first time, he became inspired to write a few songs and submitted those to lisa hannigan. So he was really influenced by Damo and yeah his version of "be my husband" was inspired by lisa's version while "give me love" i think he got it from damo's "i remember".

So I just read the lyrics to Ed Sheeran's song "Cold Water" and it sounds very inspired. There seem to be a few common themes. I've never actually listened to the song and it wasn't recorded by him, but I wonder if it was a sort of tribute?

that would actually be a really good song if they would have left the dance beat out of it.

I actually think the lyrics to Ed Sheeran's cold water are terrible, everybody gets high sometimes, well, thats the problem I have with Ed Sheeran, he's 25, but keeps writing song lyrics like if he were 12 years of age

The fact he says cold, cold water, talks about not letting go of someone, and being lost are just really similar. I'm not condoning or condemning the song, but since he's so inspired by Damien, maybe this was his version. A more mainstream cold water

I'm not really surprised he hasn't heard from Damien. He credits Damien for getting into the business but that doesn't mean Damien owes him anything for being name dropped in a few songs tho.
