so here's my litte story that i thought you all might like. I just switched guitar teachers (up to the advanced teacher now), so my new teacher asked me to bring in a cd so he could get a sample of what I listen to. So I decided to bring in Damien. The second he pushed play, he was hooked. Being the advanced teacher, he's had TONS of experience (different styles, lots of music theory, touring, even had recorded his own cd). He had nothing but praise for Damien. It was so awesome, at different parts of the songs when he was trying to figure out the chords, he would go "ohh!" and have to rewind and go back cuz he heard something really cool he wasnt expecting. He loved Damien's use of chords and such. He said he didn't know people still played music like this, and this was some of the best and most delicate/suttle music (in a GOOD way.. he said it makes you want more) he had heard in many years. He told me he's buying the cd this week, and it's not very often he hears a cd that he HAS to have. And I think he said it best when he said, "This makes me want to quit playing rock." He wants to meet Damien now. I always knew there was something really special about Damien's music, but I just thought it was so cool that a guy this experienced loved Damien's music so much. Thought you guys might think it was cool too. |

That's a great story! It's always good to convert people to fan status...especially teachers. I've got a similar story...I take this songwriting class, and we've got five minutes each at the end of each class period to do what we want with. So I brought in my guitar todayand played Cannonball for the class. They all loved it, and the professor said she was going to run out to buy the album. Definitely considered a job well done, any time a record is sold. -alicia |

You guys all sound like subtle propaganda machines
Those are great stories!! And green eyes, I agree with your guitar teacher...there is so much gold for guitarists in Damien's songs. You can use so many voicings and have it sound so beautiful - like you know how to play! Cheers guys!

lol He wrote down the chords for me for The Blower's Daughter and Volcano. I'm assuming you all know Volcano, but I can give you the chords for Blower's Daughter if you'd like. He worked out some of Delicate for me too, though I don't have it written down so I only remember parts of it. Damien's guitar work is great... I'd really like to learn Cannonball. Just have to get a capo first! |
