Consequence of sound is always a bunch of Brooklyn boners falling all over themselves. Jerk the one to your left, fellas.

Gosh - I could not wait any more for my physical copy, so just listened to the entire album from begin to end just sitting here. Seriously, the way he takes you on a tour through these songs is absolutely amazing. I've cried several times. I'm just SO glad Damien is back!

Congratulations on that!
Anyway, I'm not really into some of the songs but I'm not gonna tell. Though I really liked Trusty and True the most. And The Box is great as well. LLW is....well....he managed to make a rip off of his own song. Beautifully though. And I'm sure it was intentional. Cold Water is supposed to have been the first song he ever sang with Lisa. Maybe putting a hint of it and singing it with someone else has some actual meaning. Like he finally lets go and moves on or something From Ástrós to Bono, I believe they are not in it. Just inspired him somehow or are friends of him. So no Lisa I'm afraid. She's not supposed to be there anyway. Last edited by demonhuntress; 11-01-2014 at 09:16 PM. |

I think it's a nice album so far, but I'm a little underwhelmed. No song has yet to hit me like The Blower's Daughter did all those years ago. Maybe I have outgrown Damien

same here, although i do like ALLthe songs for most part, their isnt that one song that blows me away at first listen that would make me wanna look 'who sang that song' like TBD did in movie Closer |

Ok so as Chann I couldn't wait for my delivery and just listened to this new album and I have to say I've just traveled far away from reality! What a poetric journey, I've loved all songs, so many strings outro and synthesizer intro to make me fly all the way. I also like how Damien played with his voice, showing a whole range of his talent and emotions I didn't notice that way in previous albums, I've felt something more, maybe these changes in his voice come with age but I really love it, more than ever.
It's quite early to pick a fav' song but I'm totally stucked with The Greatest Bastard, I murder repeat with this one! And LLW is an amazing way to finish this musical dream, letting this album fade away in a beautiful way. I'm very glad right now but there's something that never changes with Damien is the way he express pain, regrets, missed love etc.. in a particular and exquisite way that I love but also ever makes me feel terrible for him! I've suffered once again while listening to all he's been through. His music has brought me so much for decades now, a deep mirror sea where I could dive into during my own hard times, it helped me a way words can't explain and I'm grateful beyond imagination for that and it's one of the reasons I really wish him the best and to reach his happy ending. I truly wish him that someday I would be an inconsolable orphan of his musical sadness, this man deserves to be happy, sound happy, seriously! Last edited by Abso; 11-02-2014 at 06:26 PM. |

in fairness, i was really tired and feeling a bit sick last night, so i couldn´t listen to it as i would have wanted. i was just happy because the new record is out now... i mean, for real (if it makes any sense to you).

I don't know if the lyrics of "It Takes a lot to know a man" have been analysed or discussed yet or not, but the last bit with overlapping sounds is quite interesting. As per the Vinyl cover sleeve, one of the bits he repeats (and which you can hear once you concentrate) is
"you wrote me to tell me you’re nervous and you’re sorry crying like a baby saying “this thing is killing me”" Though speculation, I can't decide based on the tone of the song, if he is referring to himself here (a weaker version of himself) or to Lisa (assuming it is her, and not someone else). Interesting overlap though. I am leaning towards it being the former of the two I mentioned. Any thoughts? |

Just had my third full listen through. I agree that IDWTCY really sits nicely in this record, I think if you take any of the songs as a single entity, they lose something, bar maybe TGB and Colour Me In. Was really blown away by this one, think it really comes together, and blows the crescendo at the end of the song. Must be amazing live. Wonder if he'll do many of the longer songs live on his own without all the strings to fill them out? Maybe get a crowd sing along like T&T?

Yes, that definitely makes sense. To me, in a way, it feels like being a child again on christmas morning, all these wonderful presents that we're getting. I went to the record store today, to actually hold and listen to a physical album. (I have the iTunes album, but it's not the same. And I'm still waiting for my wooden box set to arrive) |

I'm pretty disappointed in "Trusty and true". I really liked the live versions, especially the La one. But I don't really like the album version and for the main part it is because of the musical part that starts at 3:20, which instantly reminds me of background music in Lord of the Rings or other movies. Also the chore is too mellow.
