Default Regarding Lisa

Does she have any part in the writing of the songs? Is it strictly Damien?

I don't think anyone really knows the details of how the album is made. I bet she gives some input here and there, but as far as I know it is pretty much Damo all the way.

The only Damien song she's been actually credited for that I know of is co-writing "Unplayed Piano".

She certainly appears to be actively involved in the songwritting during the promo video they released with the new album...

Yeah, I was gonna mention that whole "righteous little witch" episode too. Still it's hard to say if she does that for all of them or if that was another one like "UP" that she and he wrote together. Also since we don't have the audio of that convo. we don't know if maybe he's just said something aloud that she's just writing down for him.

Also I'm never sure how credit for singer/songwriters who have backing bands works. If the main dude writes the lyrics and general music (what one would play if performing it solo) do the others ever really get credited for their imput: the bass, drum, cello, harmony etc. lines which are added later for fleshing it out? Good question for a member of a songwriters' union to answer for us I s'pose...

Lauren: It's the "9" EPK (Electronic Press Kit) video which can be found on Damo's official site, the warner bros. 9 site and on YouTube.

Im pretty sure you get credited for writing the melody and the lyrics only, so therefore Damien would have full ownership of the music. Its an example of why drums are sampled so regulary because they arent copyrighted.

Im pretty sure lisa wrote the new silent night lyrics on "O", but that and unplayed piano are the only ones ive seen her credited to. I'm sure she reads over damos stuff and has an input, whether he listens maybe another thing.

We had a conversation with Tomo at the Picnic about the band's input into the songwriting... it was informative to say the least.

Again, we want to stay out of the whole area of actually being in love with the horse!

from that description, his general demeanor must be pretty high strung but who really knows ya know? i wish i did

He's not an assh*le, but the band is called 'Damien Rice' for a reason. I'm sure he's open to input, but he does have creative control.

I actually like him more for it. I'm glad he takes his music so seriously. Being a little bit of an As*hole some of the time isn't always a bad thing if your defending your art.

I thought she may've wrote those too but couldn't find it credited to her anwhere.

Lauren,
I'm guessing Ian, Closing and Bump were in the midst of some Irish Tv show injoke or something judging by the specificity of the quotes and the pic...

They're credited to her on the inside of O, it says all songs written by Damien Rice except Silent Night - lyrics by Lisa Hannigan melody traditional. And there's never been an Irish television show about priests. I bet we'll win by a million points and you'll lose by minus one thousand.

OK yeah, thought so: but I couldn't find my "O" cause I'm at home for the holidays so I went online and didn't find it anywhere. Sean, that 'points' thing sounds suspiciously like a further injoke (was it that 'Father Ted' BBC show then?) but if it isn't then I'm still quite lost...

They have no morals, and no respect for human life. But one thing I will say, and no-one can deny this; They have the finest boilers in the world, and I include Canada in that.

Spamlet has it right.

I've no idea what Tomo said. I just like Father Ted. However my suggestion to a different member of the band suggesting that Damien seemed moody at times was met by a response that I was putting it rather mildly.

nope, still confused

regarding lisa though.. i think damien is obviously the main creative force, but i've noticed the band has more input these days, i think you can hear it on 9 that the band was more involved (in the arrangements, if not necessarily the songwriting) and in the video where damien passes the journal to lisa, i read that as him bouncing ideas off her and probably telling her what to write rather than her editing or writing herself.. i agree with the notion of lisa being somewhat of a muse to damien and that scene really illustrated that for me..

though she's proven recently that she has some songwriting skills in her own right too
