He played Rock Werchter in 2007 and it was a great show (everything is on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF5B44430CB5AA69B )

I don't see anything wrong with him playing big festivals as long as he doesn't shake his booty in a duet with Shakira

Glo, there's nothing wrong with him doing whatever he wants... (Even shaking his booty like Shakira.)
But have you ever been to Werchter?
It might have been a good show in 2007, but if you were there, you probably wouldn't have been able to see or even properly hear it. Too many people crammed together.
I guess I'm just disappointed, because he's playing beautiful venues in the US in spring.

I was referring to the Warner wanting to turn him into a pop act... The fact that he's playing big festivals doesn't mean they want to turn him into a big stadium pop act, just like he didn't turn into a big stadium pop act in 2007, that's what I'm saying.
If they start arranging duets with big pop acts (Shakira?), that's where I'd think they have a secret agenda
Never been to this festival though, and I'm sorry that it's so bad for people there... but yes, that's a preoblem with many European gigs I think - the Italian gig was in an awful venue, especially if you compare it to US venues..

for me, the fact he's playing Rock Werchter is like a confirmation that he wants to tour with a band. So I think he'll also announce a full band European tour soon, hopefully in beautiful venues

I was there when he played Werchter 07 and was incredible amazing. Of course he didn´t play the main stage but the little tent... sure they´ll do the same next year.

I don´t mind him doing the big festivals if he plays with a band...

I think he´s gonna do both, first some live dates in Europe and then the festival season

but don´t get why you´re all so against festival appearances... if it´s a band tour, there´s no way he´s gonna do an intimate gig, that´s why he did all these intimate shows this year (The Box et al.)

and actually when he played at Werchter´07 in that tent, it was quite intimate, probably 25 times smaller in size than the venue in which he played the other day in Milano for instance

you know for me it's not that I'm against festival appearances but I've never seen him live and when I see the videos of his gigs in Europe and other countries in the past years most of them seem very intimate compare to large festivals, and next year is gonna be my first chance to see him live so I really prefer to see him in some intimate gigs
but if u say when he played at Werchter´07 was quite intimate now I feel better about that

Well I'm very ok about Damien playing festivals in Europe as I'm a fan of festivals, not because of the size of fields/big noisy audience and low audio quality than often kills the music but because there's a special spirit in festivals both side of the stage, things can easily come wild and unique as artists are often relax with no "big official venue" pressure and setlist are also often full of surprises. Crowd is not quiet but friendly most of the time, I feel free there and it's a good deal to see many bands and artists in one location.
For Rock Werchter I've decided to go because of Damien, I was supposed to be at Glastonbury this week end but cancelled, damn irish singer! I'm eager to see him in this kind of venue after the unplugged gig of Paris that I've seen, so different obviously but can't be bad. I hope he won't forget his piano

Belgian beer, sun (hopefully) and Damien...what else?

I'm not really a fan of festivals. Paying a ridiculous ammount for a ticket to watch a bunch of bands I'm not interested in just to see 40 minutes of the one I like? meh I pass
I mean, I hate going to festivals but I don't mind when my fave artists play because I usually get to watch it live on the internet

the thing is if you go to a festival where there's 4/5 bands you really like, the €€€ is totally worth it... last time Damo played in Werchter there was also Tori Amos, Sigur Ros, Kings of Leon, Bjork, Muse, Amy Winehouse, Arctic Monkeys, Metallica, Air, Rufus Wainwright, Pearl Jam, Snow Patrol, Keane, QOTSA, Peter Gabriel, and that´s from memory, probably I´m forgetting many more... so totally worth the €€€

the biggest disappointment was that Damien and Tori were playing on the same day, same stage, think there was someone playing in between, but we were all sure they were gonna do something together, like him joining her for The Power of Orange Knickers, but nothing happened

Headliners don't play 40 minutes but half and an hour minimum and this year's line-up is perfect for me Damien, Muse, Florence + the machine, Foo Fighters... I'm just disappointed because of the Dalai Lama going to Glasto so I'd miss him but considering that Damien is kind of my musical Dalai Lama I won't complain

I´d say headliners play much more than that, 1hour minimum maybe 1 hour and a half even

Damo is at 22:30 preceeded by Angus & Julia, wonder if they´ll do something together, like the You´re the one that I Want cover???

Yeah, I'm watching the stream, it took a lot of time to work, I was almost giving up.
What browser are you using? I was trying chrome, but the stream need silverlight, and it doesn't work on chrome, so I had to download firefox.

This was amazing! So much more intense than last night's. He seemed to be in a better mood. The crowd was better too

Cannonball
Delicate
Elephant
9 Crimes
The Greatest Bastard
The Box
I Remember
My Favourite Faded Fantasy
Long Long Way
The Blower's Daughter
Volcano
It Takes a Lot to Know a Man

here's a crappy mp3 recording from the stereo output. my stream skipped a few times.

That was a hell of a performance, Damien was so full of energy, he pushed his voice to limits on all songs! I couldn't hear people sing or clap, he covered all, filling all space in The Barn! Very good point for Werchter about sound, Just perfect and unexpected for a festival. I'd try to post what I got tomorrow. And he nailed it at the end with ITALTKAW, would have never imagined him playing all alone this way, amazing ! My heart jumped with drums!!! Thank you Damien!

Thanks Eva, the quality is good enough for me, better than nothing
His voice just keeps getting better and better. I don't know which I love more now, when he sings with emotion and fragileness or when he sings with so much power and energie like this @@
