As you may know I went to see Radiohead yesterday evening at the Gelredome stadium in Arnhem.
Due to a traffic jam I didn't arrive until 18:45, so I couldn't really get up front. But my brother and I aren't ashamed to show our anti social side, so we managed to worm ourselves through the crowd until we couldn't possibly go any further The opening act, Asian Dub Foundation, kicked off at 19:30 and played for about 45 minutes. They were okay.. nothing more, nothing less. About half an hour later, Radiohead took the stage. Here's the setlist (more or less): 01. There There 02. 2 + 2 = 5 03. Lucky 04. Myxomatosis 05. Where I End And You Begin 06. Backdrifts 07. Fake Plastic Trees 08. Paranoid Android 09. I Will 10. I Might Be Wrong I'm not sure about the order of the next 6 songs 11. Sit Down. Stand Up 12. My Iron Lung 13. Climbing Up The Walls 14. Scatterbrain 15. Exit Music (for a film) 16. The National Anthem 17. Idioteque ---- 18. The Gloaming (thom: "what are you guys doing tomorrow? wanna come to london...?") 19. Go To Sleep 20. The Bends 21. Street Spirit (fade out) ---- (Ed: "you guys wanna know the football scores?") 22. We Suck Young Blood 23. Karma Police (with a-capella singalong at the end) 24. Everything In Its Right Place Let me tell you... they were ****ING AWESOME!!! Johnny was on a roll with his transistor radio.. he used the live broadcast of the Holland - Scotland match in the music, transforming, distorting and looping it... very cool! He also did a kick ass delay guitar solo in Backdrifts(!)! Another big surprise was Thom's solo version of I Will... breathtaking! I didn't even know they played that song live! Of course the lighting was stunning! They perfectly emphasized each song's mood, esp. for the darker songs like Myxomatosis and The Gloaming (paradox? )! But the highlights for me, and many of my fellow Radiohead fans, were the older, mellow songs like Street Spirit, Exit Music and best of all... Fake Plastic Trees! Goosebumps all over my body and a huge lump in my throat! As for the crowd... HORRIBLE BUNCH OF CORPSES!!! The crowd were awful! No hands were raised, no feet left the ground.. During 2 + 2 = 5 I was jumping like a madman but I was the only one!!! I was absolutely baffled by the crowd's lack of energy! Anywhooo.. luckily Radiohead are good enough to compensate for the crowd with their amazing music. Better yet.. Radiohead are without a doubt the best (live) band in the world! Conclusion: I had a ****ing fantastic time!!! So good a time that I just got off the phone with my girlfriend.. she wanted to break up with me cuz I ignored her all evening!
