Default snow patrol is the sh*t

i've always heard people on this site say how good snow patrol is, but i never really gave em a listen, but today i was listening to the song Run and i'm in love with this band! i just bought their CD Final Straw!! soo good.

just wanted to say thanks to all of those who have been praising this band!

EDIT: i know they have a newer cd, but i think i like this one better.

Run is a great song, with great lyrics
"light up light up, as if you have choice" - I love that line!
I do love Snow Patrol, but their new stuff seems a tad repetitive ....still catchy but kinda the same thing as before...!

I had to choose between Sufjan Stevens and Snow Patrol due to financial constraints... I had to go with the first one!! Even Snow Patrol name-drops Stevens hehe.

I never heard SP before thursday this week (on some TV show, I think it was London Live or summin), and i was impressed with the singer, but not the material on a whole.

I also think they're a bit dodgy, People I know who like them always seem to have seen them play an amazing show at some point in history. But their songs are fairly standard fare if you ask me.

What I don't get is that Gary Lightbody seems to be this massive indie fan constantly name checking The Shins, Sebadoh, Sufjan etc. yet he continues to write these turgid, bland messes of songs.

Run is a good tune though. As is some of the Reindeer Section stuff.

Namechecking is the oldest trick in the book though. Even the most derivative and lazy songwriters can seem as if they've really done their homework by saying that they listen to bands like The Stooges, Velvet Underground and Captain Beefheart. And although it might seem like they've written a bunch of really boring and predictable songs, the truth is that they're being "post-modern".

And ironical...

Can't say that I like Snow Patrol. I don't know, they just sound a bit cheesy to me?

I'm not a fan of Snow Patrol by any means - in fact I haven't heard much from them other than Gary butchering a Damien song years ago - but I found a video of theirs with Martha Wainwright that I quite like. Is this from Jools, maybe?

Check it out here. It's 'Set The Fire To The Third Bar'. Martha is deadly on this!

Hi Angela, that song is in the new album actually
I love their first few albums which are a lot more non-mainstream than Final Straw and Open your eyes.

Thanks, Marc. I listened to some album snippets of the new one and was 50/50 about it. Maybe I'll check out some older songs.
