UK Tour 2007
I agree-what horrible impersonal venues. Inevitable I guess with the success of everything. Wonder if he has much say so in the details as they dont sound like his sort of place?
There is not one of those venues I would want to see him at..... There go any plans of getting him to come play a cozy Victorian Theatre that holds an intimate 600 in the Isle of Man........ ( |

The more I think about the venues, the more disappointed I get.

hmmm i went to his bristol academy gig a couple of years ago and wasn't that keen...it's got a capacity of between 1500 and 2000 i think...
bournemouth bic is an ok venue for certain bands etc but i can't see it working...i'm not sure of the capacity but i think it's about 5000...the music will get lost, can't see it working at all i will probably go though! plymouth pav's alright too but it is big, i think anyway...it's obviously not arena size but i'm just not sure how well it'd go down |

that said, I'm unsure even about the two apollo gigs in March.
I really hope Hammersmith is a goodun even though I don't hold up much hope - because 7 of my friends who I have converted into damien fans since I met them at uni in sept are seeing him there with me for the first time.... I don't want them to be disappointed, but i've a feeling they might be. hmm. |

Hopefully he's playing the Clyde Auditorium at the SECC because if he's playing the normal venue, Hall 4, it will be absolutely dreadful. The sound is awful and it's too big.

That whole UK tour seems like it's going to be a bit crap... Devoid of any atmosphere.

I think this whole thing is a bit odd. Why is he announcing tour dates more than 8 months in advance? Why such huge venues? Can he even sell that many tickets? It's all a little fishy...

Edit: I think the problem we're having is Damien's recent run of success; i think they actually need to have these big venues to cater for demand, which is sad. Hey, count most of yourselves lucky that you've seen him before; this will be my first gig of his despite being into his music since 2003, so if it's a bad atmosphere... well, i don't need to explain. EditEdit: I'm going to the Hammersmith Apollo gig as well, and i hope that will be a decent atmosphere.

I dunno about other places. but the full capasity of the NIA isnt always used, you can change the size to whaever, its good like that. So maybe theyll just change the size.
If not i dont think its such a bad thing, gives more people a chance to see him, i always hear people moaning that they never get to see him, so i guess its good on that aspect. And im sure if he performs songs like eskimo on a theatrical level (such as the album) it could be amazing. |

Why so negative?
If other bands can play arena's with good sound, I'm sure Damien is capable of doing the same. It'll of course take some adjustments - and my bet is there will be new songs that'll rock more. (he talked about wanting to write a little bit more on the "happy side") Change can be good! I'm not afraid Damien will ever stop playing the smaller venues. If this inspires him (or even makes him never do it again!) WE are the ones who will gain from it in the long run. :-p And think about it, if he left Juniper to be more in control of things, I'm sure he's in control of this and knows exactly what's going on. I don't think I will ever live to see a totally crap Damien-show. So - who's up for Wembley Arena with me?

Saw Martyn Joseph there back in the 80's, (accoustic guitarist, similar to Damien), and he made the place feel smaller than my front room!!!, so i'm sure Damien will do a good job.. At least it's another UK tour,...we've got that to be thankful for.. R. |

Is this what I get to look forward to stateside? 20,000 seated arenas? I can only imagine the size of venues will be less, but I am trying to figure out just how small. There is no way US fans have to deal with that. He is big and getting bigger but unless he co-headlines I would only venture to guess maybe 5-7,000 seat outdoor theatres and even that to me is pushing it. He just doesn't have the radio play to make those marks here. It'll depend a lot on pricing too....

LOL I'm willing to give the gig a chance. As for it selling out - maybe there'll be a big publicity campaign over here in the summer to try and get as many tickets sold as possible |

I'm not saying it's selling out! It's good that everyone who wants to see him will get the chance... and I think they could do an awesome BIG-gig... they have enough imagination and sense of humour in the band to create something fantastic.

I think everyone is in agreement that we like small, intimate gigs. It's not quite the same being in a room with 20,000+ people talking, as it is a small room with about 1000 people in where you can here each other. But nevertheless, who knows, I trust Damien to still entertain and I'm looking forward to it
