Default The problem with going to see Lisa down the country

Totally my own fault I suppose but this was the second time that it nearly happened after going to the gig in Tullamore last year. I went to Oldcaste tonight, it's about 70 minutes away, 50 or so miles from home, about twice the length as I'd normally have to travel for a gig in Dublin. No problem, I don't mind and it's been nearly a year since I went to see Lisa play.

They don't really have 24 hour petrol stations in a similar abundance then they do in Dublin though. So once again, just like with Tullamore I started to make my way home and the low diesel light comes on. There's typically 35-40 miles in my tank at that point and I get through Athboy and then Trim and then Summerhill with no sign of a place open aside from pubs and chip shops (a reason to convert to running on used up cooking oil maybe) and once again I begin to contemplate the notion of pulling up outside the next petrol station and going to sleep till the morning.

Eventually about 6 miles from home after driving at least 33 miles I found one. Phew. The gig was good but not worth spending the night in my car.

Anyway the gig itself, the thing that struck me most was that last time I saw Lisa play she was new to the experience of being front and centre, she was obviously enjoying the experience and she performed with a real sense of fun. Now that's been replaced a little by what seems to be a lot more confidence and huge amounts of poise, very impressive.

The band were a ****load tighter too, much more able to feel each other out mid song.
