i´m getting a lot of info (well, it´s kind the same info over and over again) by google alerts about this gig and damien´s kindness and about what a shame it is that those who are in charge (aka politicians ) do nothing.
i truly hope they can make a good work and a helpful long-term deal.
(i also wish i had the money to fly there. i bet it will be a lovely and touching evening. best of luck meowth )

Yes, apparently he was in the area for a vacation with friends and in seeing the lack of potable water in the area he decided to do something about it. So he took the initiative to start a campaign to plant trees and help with the water situation. And then the show was done in order to mark a sort of the end of the campaign.

The money from the concert is going to be used for the construction of a local dam and to create a documentary of his efforts, and I assume to create awareness of the lack of resources in Barichara.

I found a blog talking about the whole water problem in Barichara.

http://acueductobarichara.blogspot.com/

It is very common in many places in south america this kind of problem and people having to walk, like 40km to get a bucket with water to cook, for example. The images looks quite the same as many places in Brasil. It is really sad...
