Great gig! I was really impressed with the version of "The Professor" they did. And "I remember" was just amazing. Tomo was really on form last night.

I'm really badly hungover! Well worth it though!!

They played (and not in this order)
The Prof
I remember - (Best version i've heard!!)
Amie
Woman like a man
cold water
Come together (Vyvienne adn Tomo)
Be my Husband
Tongue
Eskimo
Volcano - (great version!!)
Face
Older Chests

Christ my head hurts!
*stumbles off to find some andrews antacid*
</font>

And there was still people shouting and ruining the atmosphere at certain points.

At one point i saw Damo shaking his head, as they shouted something. You could see he was getting pissed off.

And it seemed to be very short. Encore was 2 or 3 songs and the whole thing was over at 10:55pm. Still a great gig!</font>Edited by: daol20

Even with all that, they still managed to perform a really really tight set!

Tomo's solo at the end of a magical 'I remember' was brilliant. At one point i think they got very slightly out of sync, Tomo was giving it so much. I always seem to pay attention to the drummer when watching a gig, and i've had the pleasure of watching him twice in a week, and the guy is class!

On a whole they all seemed to put so much effort into each song, i was really impressed.</font>Edited by: daol20

Hey guys just wondering if any of you have read the official site about last night? Like you all were mentioning, there are pages about how incredibly rude the crowd was all night, and how upset they are, and thats why the show was so short.?? And no blowers daughter.. oh so sad What do you think did it have a big impact on Damien? I feel so lucky, when I saw Damien In Portland it was sooo quiet you could hear a pin drop while he was singing.. It seems though that you all enjoyed it despite the few who were so rude Edited by: jbalogh

People were shussing them ,and telling them to shut-up but every now and then someone would shout out something. And always at a quiet and important part of a song.

Damo shook his head in disgust at one point. They went off stage and took for ever to come back on for the encore (was starting to think they werent coming back) then when finished, he just said thank good night and walked off the stage fairly quickly.

Now it wasnt all the time. And at one point i thought, the people who were doing it had got the message. </font>Edited by: daol20

I just hope all this stuff doesn't put Damien and the band off touring in Ireland, especially Dublin. In America and Europe and places where they are still less well known, they wouldn't have to put up with this sort of stuff.

What Damien should do is continue to play gigs in Dublin but just do small unadvertised ones like Whelans that are announced the day before on Eskimo Friends and that's it.

Too nostalgic? Too much to ask? Well, I can dream, can't I?

The portland show was sold out though, and it was full of die hard fans who seemed to know every song, when he would just start the opening chords they would roar and then stop, it was funny.. Damien even commented on how we would start and stop on cue!!..It seems he is pretty well known in the states, getting bigger and bigger.. He gets very good press. I think your idea about the shows in Dublin are a good idea.. Nice dream anyway Edited by: jbalogh

About the song.... It was a Juniper song called "Never" which became the Bell X1 song "Eve, the Apple of my Eye" on Music in Mouth.

Damien also sang Tongue off Music in Mouth which it seems hemight be doing for himself.

And of course Volcano, Woman Like a Man and Face were already on the first Bell X1 album, Neither Am I.

Oh the confusion!!!

I have to say i was disgusted with a small number of the crowds reactions last night. The heckling between songs when damien was trying to talk was childish. " Im pregnant damo" - roared from a scanger dub, and go on ricer - and cut your hair ricer were all heard as were the constant talking at the start of songs.

How did these people get tickets ? My own theory is that the touts were left high and dry due to the number of face value tickets available from the shop on the day of the gig. So being scanger dubs as most touts are they invited their scanger mates who had probably never heard a damien rice song before.

Result : damien and band cut encore short by 6 songs. No Blowers Daughter , cheers darling or delicate or hallejulah.

Easy to see why damien wants smaller more initimate venues for his gigs.

Band were amazing though - and volcano rocked.

Sorry - rant over.

Must say December gig was much better!Edited by: Rice Krispies

You're right jbalogh, and I know Damien's big in America, but his popularity in America has a direct effect on the type of popularity has over here, which is converting from cult to mainstream status. While in America, he's a cult figure, with lots of devoted fans who reverently attend his gigs, over here he now unfortunately seems to be seen by many as 'our Damien', an Irish export and product, who must be good because he's big in America. As a result, his gigs attract lots of people just because he's well known. Rice Krispies theory about the touts is possible too.

A similar thing happened with David Gray, who, though English, had a cult following in Ireland for a long time before he was known elsewhere. Then White Ladder made no. 1 in Britain and sold a lot in the US, Gray played at Witnness (big rock festival Damienplayed atlast year)and next thing we know he's playing at Marlay park (big field in south Dublin) to a crowd that knew Babylon and Please Forgive me and talked through his acoustic, folk set. I saw Gray in France to a crowd of about500 and he was incredible.

Having said that, my faith might be restored when I see Rice in Galway tomorrow. Maybe it's just a Dublin thing.
