i think the lights made his orange pants look red too. i like them, especially with the blue jacket. he's dressing more colorfully these days, that's good. i'm surprised he cut/shaved his hair though, it wasn't all that long it looked like it was just starting to grow out in minneapolis.. either way he looks nice thank you for the video clips people! (esp. of happy green joe.. can anyone make out the lyrics?) it sounds like it was another stunning show in new york! hope someone recorded. i love when he does the color/emotion/body part/etc. improvs.. |

Gosh, sounds like you all got a scorching performance of 9 Crimes. Maybe it's just me, but I swear everytime he plays it, it gets better and better

Sistah is correct about the lighting: the "red" pants were actually a rust orange color which contrasted well with the indigo jacket. Also, he still primarily plays the Lowden but there was a second looked-brand-new acoustic there which I've never seen before.
Definitely one of the top three of the five NYC shows of this past year. Heavy as Hell, mind blowing funky jams and we even got another not at all "happy" color improv song like at Hiro! I told Damo afterwards that those made-up songs are always my favorite part of his shows and encouraged him that he should do it more often so hopefully y'all will get a similar treat on your tour stop! Speaking of the remaining shows, we joked again about his never remembering playing my hometown. I said "My sister is psyched about finally getting to see you live next week." He said "Oh, are we playing in Cleveland?" Never let it be said that Damo doesn't have a sense of humor. Ironically, with his head newly shaved and decked out in the trademark, now disintegrating patchwork he looked almost exactly the same as the last time he played there those many years ago when we first met (I know the starter of this thread will always remember that stunning NE Ohio night) which many of you have seen the pic of in that now legendary shirt thread. Being likewise dorky, I too was wearing the same blue coat I had on in that photo. I guess the good news for the un-fashion conscious like Damo and I is we'll never be embarrassed by what we were wearing in dusty old albums decades from now. We'll just look down and point at ourselves proud that our stubbornness has led us to momentarily actually be back in the current style. His visit to the party was really quite a brief 10 minutes or so this time but I did finally remeber to tell him about the amazing coincidence that my pal Summer wrote a song quite a while ago called "What the Night is For". He said that actually the song doesn't have a name yet, however I learned that the "where do you go to pretend?" tune is entitled "Beast and Beauty". I asked him why he'd said we weren't going to be seeing them again for quite a while in NYC and he said he's going to be taking a big break. The rest of the band was as warm as ever but the major props must go to Vyv. After we'd all been hanging out for around 45 minutes in the appointed room, she invited a dozen or so of us back to hang in the greenroom with her. She busted out her laptop to jam a cool bluegrass compilation she'd bought on the corner that day, but we, despite being in MSG of all places, couldn't get the speakers up very loud. Yvonne was joking again about wishing she'd be able to go on tour with them but Vyv is such a beautiful and generous companion that she always makes you feel that such a lovely fantasy has already come true. Phenomenally talented new guy Brendan is super chill too and told me that he's known Damo and Joel for years. Vyv said that Tomo as you probably all figured is spending some time with his wife and kids. Everybody had to get on the bus so we left around 1am. Being actors, Vonnie and I couldn't resist the urge to sing a few notes when, after a wrong turn, we found ourselves on the stage itself. Looking out as we serenaded the poor, defenseless cleaning crew I saw the spot about 8 feet away where I'd been standing just 3 hours before (she snapped a fun shot of me from her frontline position which I'll upload here if she sends it). Another absolutely magical night with my favorite live performers and somehow it never gets any less special, only moreso. The maniacs were right: these are the days and we DR fans are all truly "blessed snd lucky". BTW, I'm sorry I apparently missed most of the rest of my NYC crew but I did go to Stitch beforehand and couldn't find anyone there I recognized. Huge thanks go out to Beacon buddy/porn King Scott, his lovely girlfriend and the sweet young lass whose secret gift helped me see all the splendor from right upclose.

Vamp music?
Great show! Excuse my ignorance, but since we got there so early we heard the vamp music for a good hour and got to like it. Does anyone know who it was? It was a (mostly) instrumental set of tracks with various orchestral instruments (bass clarinets, etc) accompanied by heavy backing beats, and some vocal guttoral noises.

vamp music
I asked the sound guy Johnathan about it. He said it was a French Techno band called "Noze". He even spelled it out for me. I just love how europeans pronounce "Z" as "Zed".
And Spamlet...my name is Scott not Steve. |

Only just got myself connected to the etree trading place, so i'll have a look around for this one and let those who went know if i come across anything!

I really like the new hair cut! Sounds like it was a great show, and I didn't doubt it would be.

oooohhhhh!!!!!
it's taken me forever to finally find my way to a computer. i'm actually in LA right now, hopefully going to the gig tomorrow night!!! spamlet, i'll have the pics for you when i return to nyc so glad you made it out! the show was amazing overall, i thought boston was the best show, but knew this NYC show was going to be the best show ever. was front row center, a bit to the left, right up against the rail. rocked out the whole time!!! god, they are just SO amazing live!!! happy green joe! highlight of ALL shows i've ever seen!!!!!!! such a brilliant song off the top of ALL of their heads, but the lyrics?!? are you kidding me?!?! GENIOUS!! "cuz i'm happy, cuz i'm happy, cuz i'm happy, unlike you..." that was the lyric right? is there anyone who got a copy of this?! the youtube video cuts off right before this lyric, which carried through out the song, i was literally in tears! he said after the song that even a song about being happy is depressing as hell! lol! oh, and he said performing for NYC is like trying to impress a girl you like. you get all nervous and always **** it up. not true in this case. i got backstage again, and yes vyv was a doll. the "after party room" had horrible lighting so vyv invited us to the greenroom. mentioned to brenden the new drummer that i love the harder stuff and he said damien said he's starting to love it alot more too. i can not wait to hear how he evolves during the break. already looking forward to the next album. anyway, i can't believe the LA show tomorrow will be the last for one a while. i don't know what i'm going to do with myself... hope you had a great time during the mini-usa tour!!! now i've gotta go try and find a freaking ticket for tomorrow!! agh!!!
