only live 1o mins walk so now I'm home from it.
Another great show by the gang this time with the addition of Vyvienne and Lucy on violin. all the usual stuff played (no setlist) but she did play a new song, so new it didn't have a title, only lyric I remember form it is "the cup and the pot" or was it "the pot and the cup" Anyhoo, nice melody to it.
Not too sure about the venue, nice and all that it is I didn't find it very atmospheric, but that could be just me. Should have brought the camera as I could have got some lovely shots (at the front). meh....

I thought the accoustics were great! We were at the back of the standing section and it sounded perfect.

Was a nice surprise to see Vyv there tonight, wasn't expecting that

Unfortunately I didn't get to meet any of them... the venue not being a bar, it emptied quite quickly and I didnt' see any of them come back out

Still, a great show. That new song reminded me of a sea-shanty... Dont' ask me what a shanty is, but that's what it reminded me of A lyric I half remember was something like:
"so he went west, and *** did attest, that his hands were clean"

Pity they didn't use that big-ass organ that the venue has

Oh they also played a song with Vyv on the grand piano that they usually don't play with a piano... not certain which song it was though... I think it was Teeth. Lisa was trying to (jokingly) jee them all up for it before they started, as they weren't sure it would work. But it did and was great.

Great. As an added bonus, Paul Noonan came on and sang Some Surprise.

From the middle of a lenghty post on Jim Carroll of the Irish Times' blog ...

Time will come when Lisa Hannigan too will perform with an orchestra at her beck and call. Her show at the same venue on Saturday night was another event gig, the hall full to bursting with folks who’d followed her from the days as a sidekick or heard her new songs on the radio or were simply smitten by the musical juggling and promenading of her “Sea Sew” album. She’s had quite a year and this sell-out crowd wanted to share some of it with her. There were lanterns over the stage, a showing of a cute new video for “Ocean & A Rock” (I’ll post it once I find it online) before she came onstage and freshly laundered kit all round. The omens were good.
Sadly, the gig never quite reached the zones which were mapped out for it. Chalk it down to nerves (Hannigan seemed as nervous as a bag of kittens for the first half of the show) and high expectations because this singer and her band certainly have the chops after spending most of this year on the road. It’s a hard one to analyse because the source code for this show is much the same as it was in Dundalk’s Spirit Store in July and that was one of the magical gigs of the year.
But while the rooms and audiences have increased in size, the material and performance haven’t quite yet upscaled in the same way. That will come with time and patience because there’s no doubting Hannigan’s ability or drive to do just that. She’s set to spend much of 2009 in the United States - the album is released there on January 20 and the touring and overnight bus journeys resume in February - and the rigours of the road will see her right. Certainly, Hannigan seems to have picked the right side of the Atlantic to concentrate on first.

Here's a review of the Dublin gig...

Quote:
Lisa musters the chutzpah to go solo in spotlight

SOME singers dream of a solo career, but Lisa Hannigan had hers thrust rudely upon her.

Shortly before going on stage in Munich in early 2006 singer Damien Rice told his backing vocalist -- and, it was rumoured, his muse -- their creative partnership had run its course.

She had been at Rice's side through his rise to the pinnacle of the angsty singer food chain, but now Hannigan was out in the cold.

Looking back, splitting from Rice was probably the best thing that ever happened to her. Returning to Dublin, Hannigan recorded a low-key but often lovely album called 'Sea Sew' -- a record that, despite its sometimes maudlin mood swings, feels a world removed from Rice's overwrought bedsit mopery. With tingle-inducing single 'Lille', she even garnered herself an airplay hit.

Still, there were questions as to whether the infamously retiring Hannigan could muster the chutzpah to command the limelight.

Happily, such doubts are laid assuredly to rest at this Vicar Street homecoming, at which Hannigan, a picture of boho chic in glitzy frock and knee-high boots, soaks up the attention like a natural.

She pumps a squeeze box as her band, including cellist Vyvienne Long and guitarist Gavin Glass, tip-toe through the arch chamber pop of 'Teeth' and the fireside whimsy of 'Courting Blues'.

Though some material suggests an artist still finding her feet -- 'Splishy Splashy' is blandly pretty -- slow-building numbers such as 'I Don't Know' transmit a menacing ebb and crackle.

Rapturous

There are a few surprises, too. She joins support artist Mick Flannery for his gorgeous self-penned Christmas ditty and duets with Bell X1's Paul Noonan on 'Some Surprise' (which she originally performed with Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody).

Yet it's her singalong version of 'Lille' which brings the audience to its feet.

On record, the song feels impossibly sad. Tonight, it is three minutes of pure, rapturous joy.

- Ed Power

I'm sure she will... and I'd imagine headline this time. She's gotta support the album release.
