From the 07.07.2006 Texas version of the song... it sounds like "this shell" (especially at the very end of the song)

that's weird cos I was just looking at the lyrics on this site last week wondering "Where the hell are they getting 'this shell' from?"

For the last five years I though it was 'fishing' cos that actually makes sense with the whole rod metaphor.

Ok, on the 9 version he's definately singing 'for fishing'. I liked 'this shell' much better, oh well.

it was probably mislabeled as such if you downloaded it from someone who got it from someone else, who got it from someone else...etc etc, who didn't know the real title...

I always thought it was 'for show'. Saw him do it live ages ago, should have paid more attention...

I though first it was something like "for sure" but then in ebonics like: "fo show"

I personally like that he doesn't always worry about pronouncing every little bit of a word. spamlet might kill me. it's just not something i focus on so much.

Of course, but then he should print the lyrics on the album sleeve (or in these post-vinyl days: in the cd booklet). It's also a singing technical issue; if he sang fishIIIIng with a clearer 'i' sound he'd get a more classical sound (like Tori Amos would siiiiing iiiiit) than when he twangs 'fisheeeeehng'. so he is forgiven of course..
