Wow. Just wow. Last night was the first time I’ve seen Damien et al (was travelling when he was here last). My gf and I were just held entranced the entire night. I was so blown away that I’m seriously considering blowing off the Snow Patrol to go to tonight’s gig as well. I’d seriously put it in my top 10 gigs of all time (coming from someone who attends ~100 gigs/yr).

Damien was…well…he held the audience in the palm of his hand. Lisa was just ethereal. Vyvienne's solo was kooky and amusing.

Aaaanyways…the setlist was:

‘never been in this place before’ (damien kneeling over singing into his guitar)>>
Volcano
Amie
9 Crimes
Coconut Skins
Dogs
Rootless Tree
Random Man on the Motorway (Vyvienne)
Cannonball
Cold Water>>
Hallelujah
The Professor
I Remember

Encore
Rainy Night House (Lisa unaccompanied covering Joni Mitchell)
Delicate
Lisa’s Blue Moon improv (Lisa’s transmitter screwed up, so while it was getting fixed Vivien and Damien made up a little song about it)
The Animals Were Gone
Blower’s Daughter (unplugged)

The gig clocked in at a spellbinding 2 hrs. The crowd was one of the most respectful I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of. You could hear a pin drop just about the entire night.

I was crushed to discover one of my mics had a loose connection on it – so the right channel has sporadic static throughout the gig. Dammit! Ruined what is otherwise a fine recording.

Lyrics to the new song (as far as I can tell):

She’s got a place within the walls
Where she swings near the house with the trees
She’s got a way with animals
And invites me along to get free
There’s an army of men who’d shoot for her
Even goddesses watch when she moves
Friends get us high and something opens up the sky
It feels as if nothing to lose

Oh and we’ve never been in this place before
Not as it is right now, right now
And we may never know what this night is for
So for now, we’ll just sit around

He’s got a way of lingering
Like a ghost that just won’t go away
He’s got a place within the wind
Oh he’s around, but I know that he won’t stay
There’s an army of stars that crash the night
That would burn in the still it was cold
So we dared the guards to come and sit and talk with us
We were bruised, we were spared, we were bold

Oh and we’ve never been in this place before
No, not as it is right now, right now
And we may never know what this night is for
So for now, we’ll all just sit around
Yeah, for now, just sit around

Cos we’ve never been in this place before
No, not as it is right now, right now
And we may never know what this life and long living is for
So for now we’ll jump.

Default i agree

i was at the show too
he was amazing
everything i thought he would be and more
and you're right, the crowd was great

my only minor disappointment was the omission of a few of my favourite songs. but you know, can't really find fault in that. what he did was incredible and unique

i'd love to get a copy of your recording if that is at all possible. i am kicking myself i didn't record it myself

if you're able to post it up, anywhere, that would mean alot

thanks!

thank you so much whatboutbob! i must hug you now

i love the new song, thanks so much for sharing it! he did that singing into his guitar thing on i remember in minneapolis in december.. i just love how it seques into volcano (my first favorite) and what a setlist! cold water > hallelujah would be a treat to hear as well.. and look dramaking, lisa covered our song! oh i'd love to hear her singing rainy night house..

yes i'm hinting

that's a bummer about your mic but the quality is still pretty good.. and it sounds like you had a fantastic night at your first damien gig! he's so amazing live, there's nothing like it and i've heard so many people say his shows are the best live gigs they have ever seen. that's really saying something, you know? i really hope you blew off snow patrol and went to damien again instead.. if so come back and tell us about it, you write a mighty fine review

Sounds like a great show - especially with the respectful crowd (!!), improv and new song (and on that note - thank you so much for the recording! it sounds wonderful... I do hope we'll get to hear the rest of your tape soon enough )

As much as I love snow patrol... I'd blow off the show I'm going to in March if it meant seeing damien two nights in a row

Aye...i regret going to snow patrol now. oh well.

Gimme a couple of weeks to track the show and I’ll do a B+P for it. Just don't get your hopes up about it...the static is worse in some places than others.

Right...i've tracked the show and flacced it up. Can't be arsed trying to fix the static. Mono just sucks, so I'm leaving it in stereo for someone else to try to fix it if they want to. I make no claims as to the quality of it, but judging by the inundation of PMs a few people want it. I'm happy to u/l this show to one person. After that, its up to that person to distibute it. If you fit the following criteria, and you want it, PM me and also claim it in this thread (so that I don't get a bunch of PMs):

You must:

have at least a 512kb net connection
be happy to d/l 400 meg
know how to d/l via aol instant messenger (non-negotiable)
be able to meet on aim to set things up between 5pm and 10pm AEDST
be happy to distribute it to others.

I've currently only got a work pc at home – it has some pretty nasty restrictions. Aim, for one reason or another, is the only way I’ve found to reliably share from it.

hi everyone!

I'm new here. I don't have a lot of time online these days but had to make the effort to join after the Melbourne gigs! The first and second nights were so very different and unique. It was the best experience of my life.

The 2nd night (Tuesday 20th) was ..indescribable. I don't have a proper review for you ..I honestly can't recall the set list..and I didn't take any pics or video (asides from a few snaps on a mobile phone which didn't turn out the best) ..I just sat there and experienced it. I was in the second row and I gotta say...when Damiens eyes connect with yours..it is like he is reading into your soul. It was magnificent. Lisa was the most exquisite creature I have ever come across. The four of them work so well together.
At one stage Damien asked if there were any muso's in the house as he was tired and wanted to sit with a glass of wine. A guy got up and played for a short time whilst Damien sat with us in the crowd. Then the guy onstage and Damien did a mini-duet He also wrote a song with a few random words thrown out from the audience..the girl sitting in front of me got her name in it -- 'Elizabeth'

Such a wonderful wonderful night.

I'm inspired...

WAB,

Thanks so much for recording the show! I'd started to transcribe from the old version but it was very rough in places . Just a few additional changes (italicized). There are some definite differences between the two nights the "we were bruised" line being the major one and the last line of the song, of course, if it has indeed been altered to "jump" but it's too hard to tell that on this version.

We'd need at least one more gig to be recorded before we can be certain of it but I believe that on both nights he messed up the lyrics in that the line "he's got a place within the wind" is probably actually be the first line of the second verse. He did it that way the first show but then he repeated it as the third line instead of singing the one about "a way of lingering" at all. You can hear him hesitate like he's forgotten and then he just sings the same line again.

Lyrics to the new song:

She’s got a place within the woods
Where she swings near the house in the trees
She’s got a way with animals
And invites me along to get free
There’s an army of men who’d shoot for her
Even goddesses watch when she moves
Friends get us high and something opens up the sky
And it fills us with nothing to lose

Oh and we’ve never been in this place before
Not as it is right now, right now
And we may never know what this night is for
So for now, we’ll just sit around

He’s got a way of lingering
Like a ghost that just won’t go away
He’s got a place within the wind
Oh he’s around, but I know that he won’t stay
There’s an army of stars that'd crash the night
They were burnin' but still it was cold
So we dare the Gods to come and sit and talk with us
We were bruised, we were spared, we were bold

Oh and we’ve never been in this place before
No, not as it is right now, right now
And we may never know what this night is for
So for now, we’ll all just sit around
Yeah, for now, we'll just sit around

Cos we’ve never been in this place before
No, not as it is right now, right now
And we may never know what this life and long living is for
So for now we’ll jump.

Yes the Melbourne concerts were great, but being forced to sit down and not being able to sing along was a bit of a bummer

On the flipside, the crowd was so respectful both nights it was not funny. A completely different kettle of fish to the last time he was here a couple of years ago.

Does anyone remember that Armadale Hotel gig? Lots of people were horribly pissed and he was on his own, and the whole thing went a bit pear shaped..

I saw him at the POW in Melbourne last time and it was an amazing gig. As good as it was, I think that the Adelaide show from this tour topped it.

If this isn't going around yet I'm fine to get AIM set up and get this show going.. I'm in Melb too so timing shouldn't be an issue..

Is a shame you didn't go to the second night, was a stunner too.. definately one of the best gigs I've been to.. I was sitting behind the girl yelling out for Toffee Pop.. glad he finally played it and shut her up
