Following much talking up this of guy here I purchased his compact disc entitled Poses today.
I am about to insert it into my cd player. For all your sakes it had better be good.

Seems like people have been bopping me on the head and yelling "RUFUS WAINWRIGHT!!" in my ears. So--he's good, eh?

Hey--I just got my lazy bum over to his site and realised that I've heard some of his songs on college/independent radio stations. I've known some of his music for a long time, but never knew who it was by. From what I can hear on the site he's great!

Ian, give it some time. He'll grow unto you. Brillant song writer. Extremely talented and very original. I listen to him off and on, but it's not somebody I'd want to listen to non-stop.

I downloaded some songs from Want One but they don't really do anything for me. And Vibrate is just crap!

So, Vibrate is perhaps lyrically weak. I don't judge an artist by one weak track or two. 'Want One' is Rufus' 'Kid A'.
Oh well, go ahead! Put it aside for a year, then. Still there's not a show on my back Holes or a friendly intervention I'm just a little bit heiress, a little bit Irish A little bit Tower of Pisa Whenever I see ya So please be kind if I'm a mess! Hmm.. I'll have a few more listens, but it's so theatrical. I'm afraid it's not gonna grow on me...

Theatrical it is. he sure takes some getting used to. Well, much of it. He's also written more simple and very moving songs, like 'Dinner At Eight'.
Rufus' musical background (other than the folk music scene he grew up in) is opera and, since he lives in New York, also a smattering of Gershwin, Broadway etc. |

The only song I've heard is California. Nice tune.

Lor that guy is brilliant in Brokeback Mountain OST and Antony and the Johnsons' I Am A Bird Now. Unfortunately, Wainwright's albums are unavailable in Malaysia.

Lor I doubt he'd be able to, given his sexual ambiguity (or rather bisexuality haha). A retailer once imported some but I didn't know Rufus then; they've all been sold now. We also don't have Teddy Thompson the other outstanding act in Brokeback Mountain. Oh, and neither was that show screened here.
