Just out of interest, what size/thickness of plectrum do people use when playing their acoustic guitar?

i am obsessed with fingerpicking and strumming with my thumb. most of the songs i have written do not involve pics, but there arecertain sounds that you cannot get unless you are using a pic...you know there are those moods when you want to be loud...

I don't usually use a pick but as Jgrg1984 pointed out, to get some sounds you have to use one. When I do use one though, I use the Hot Picks range. They're nice to use but really brittle so they have a habit of breaking. It's not all bad cos the pics on them are highly ammusing so it gives me an excuse to get some more. i know these hotpicks you speak of, although ive never used them. i actually have a bagfull of pics from a place called "perfect pieteh" (atleast thats what it looks like on the pic), that my girlfriend brought back for me on her last trip to ireland. so those and random free pics are the ones that i use when i do.

well, i used medium picks (0.73) but my guitar teacher suggested to try
out harder ones so i did and currently i am using 1.13 pick which feels
pretty good...and of course i am not playing just with a pick, there
are songs that just sound better played with thumb/fingers or
fingerpicked...

when I started to play the guitar I used mostly thin plecs, because they are easier to use. now I use most of the time 0,73 plecs. actually it depends what kind of song I play. some songs sounds better with thin, some better with hard ones!

p.s. sorry for my bad english, I'm from germany!

Your english is fine DK, better than some of the "naturals" on here

Me, I use mediums, Jim Dunlop Tortex ones, yellow in colour. Simply nothing else will do! I fingerpick also andgo between plec and fingerstyle (normally when I drop the plec inside the guitar midsong ....)

I'm a medium pick man at the moment. Practicing loads of lead work on the electric so I need to use it. trying to master John Squire type solos. Always use the fingers on my acoustic though. Gives a much better sound.

I use Dunlap Jazz III, they're tiny and have absolutely no flex whatsoever, just like fingers, that's probably why I like them.....

There is a product called "Gorilla Snot" that does wonders for not dropping picks. Just a little between your thumb & index finger makes the pick stick where it's supposed to be. And I use the Dunlop Nylons, .73 & .88 mostly, besides my fingers. These picks are great for tone, DO NOT BREAK & will last until you lose them.

I'm a picker aswell. I only own plects that i've caught mid-air in concerts, meaning one from James Hetfield and one from the singer of Ash
