Powerful film indeed. Björk did a magnificent job as Selma, so overwhelming. Transcendental performance and one of my favourites by an actor/actress ever. Apparently she's had an extremely difficult time during the shooting of Dancer (mainly with portraying the harsh emotional palette that is Selma), and has stated never to set foot on another film set again.

The ending didn't really come as a shock to me, I saw it coming miles away, and it's just the way it should be (as harsh as that might sound). I did weep like a baby though, something I rarely do with films, but in this case it was nearly impossible not too.

Not to be a spoilsport, but it's actually Paul Noonan of Bell X1 Lisa duets with. Unless there's a Lisa & Damien version that I'm unaware of.

actually i didn't like björks work too much in the film - i mean, yeah it was fresh and honest, but sometimes i missed the professionalism of an actor. i felt like i was watching her cry more than she made me cry. i still had that 'i've been emotionally raped by von trier again'-feeling after watching it, and the end was definately the strongest part and i felt that björks despair (probably mainly coming from the horror of working with von trier - she even fled from the film set and ran many miles bare-footed cause it was so tough on her) really worked there, it was heartbreaking to watch.

and i love the song 'i've seen it all'.

Oh yeah, Von Trier sure works his actors like slaves. Miss Björk and the Lars were apparently so contemptuous of one another and at each other´s throats 24/7 that right before she fled the scene she actually bit off a part of his t-shirt (atta girl!).

Interestingly, the ending didn´t even make me weep (all that much). I distinctly remember the ´I´ve Seen It All´ sequence (the one with Peter Stormare a.k.a. Uli Cunckle, the chief nihilist from The Big Lebowski - excellent actor ) as the one that had me going: boy oh boy, Niagara Falls! And more importantly, not once did the film strike me as sentimental or melodramatic which it could´ve more than easily been.

Morty doesn´t much dig Von Trier´s work, right?

Ah! Actually, just the other day he told me how the most recent Thomas Vinterberg film (I forget the name, it stars Claire Danes and Joaquin Phoenix) is the best film to (have ever) come out of Denmark. Haven´t seen it myself.

listening to kashmir - big fresh (think it is live) on the radio

yeah, canada breed many oddities, for better or worse. i actually haven't formed an opinion on chicken salad - aka chicken and sara - aka tegan and salad - yet either. but must admit some of their stuff is catchy **** - sometimes 'monday monday monday' can't get out of my head.

'it's all about love' is the title, and vinterberg has made dear wendy since then. 'it's all..' isn't all that good imo - it's an interesting experiment but not a successfull one. i think maybe 'breaking the waves' or 'dogville' are the best danish film, but then i sorta love lars fun trier.
