man!! i know i have posted this topic before but i seriously STILL cant get this amazing song. maybe its the live version on the B sides or just my terribly trained ears but i CANT hear the finger picking well enough to copy it. and another question ok i understand that you finger pick a whole chord but for example the chord C has only 5 strings to pick (because the Fat E string is muted in a C chord) and chords like G or F have all 6 strings to pick. i just dont get how you can pick 5 strings in the same time as you pick the 6 on the other chords... Am i confusing? please answer!!! ahhh i wanna learn this song so bad, thanks guys~! |

its hard to describe...its a simple arpeggio style of just following the stings in the chord....i dont really know how to describe it right now as i am tired...try doing a search on this because someone actually tabbed out what im trying to explain a while back

here's what i tabbed before: inTAB, the picking pattern for C then changing to C(b): e xxxx 0xxx B x x x1x 1 xx G xx0 x x x 0 x D x 2 xx xx x 2 A 3 x x xx x xx E x x x xxx xx e xxxx 0xxx B x x x1x 1 xx G xx0 x x x 0 x D x0 xx xx x0 A2 x x xx x xx E x x x xxx xx Notice that you don't play the C on the A string (3rd fret) twice. you just change to the bass note of the next chord. do this for all arpeggio chord changes in this song.Edited by: Banjaxed

the chords are picked in this sequence: C, C/B, Am, G, F, Em, F, G. I play C, C/B and Am as 5 chord strings... so they are picked as described above. I (think) when I play F, Em and G I pick the B-string and the high E-string (the two skinniest strings)at the same time. i don't have a guitar here to try, but i do something like that and it sounds good.

I sat down with my guitar and this is (usually) how i play it. The Professor - Damien Rice Capo 3rd. (Tabbed Verse only) --------C-------- e x x x 0 x x B x x x 1 x x G x x 0 x 0 x D x 2 x x x 2 A 3 x x x x x E x x x x x x -------C/B------- e x x x0 x x B x x x 1 x x G x x 0 x 0 x D x 0 x x x 0 A 2 x x x x x E x x x x x x -------Am-------- e x x x 0 x x B x x x 1 x x G x x 2 x 2 x D x 2 x x x 2 A 0 x x x x x E x x x x x x --------G-------- e x x x 3 x x B x x x 0 x x G x x 0 x 0 x D x 0 x x x 0 A x x x x x x E 3 x x x x x --------F-------- e x x x 1 x x B x x x 1 x x G x x 2 x 2 x D x 3 x x x 3 A 3 x x x x x E x x x x x x -------Em-------- e x x x 0 x x B x x x 0 x x G x x 0 x 0 x D x 2 x x x 2 A 2 x x x x x E x x x x x x --------F-------- e x x x 1 x x B x x x 1 x x G x x 2 x 2 x D x 3 x x x 3 A 3 x x x x x E x x x x x x --------G-------- e x x x 3 x x B x x x 0 x x G x x 0 x 0 x D x 0 x x x 0 A x x x x x x E 3 x x x x x notice the spacing between the second and third note in each picked chord is closer. this indicates that these notes are played in slightly quicker sucession than the others. I don't ALWAYS play it like this, but this sounds good and is very clean. I'll get to the other bits another time, but someone else will have to help you with La Fille Danse, cause I don't play that correctly. (edited cause i madea mistake in the C/B chord - will i ever get this right?!)Edited by: Banjaxed
