I've been listening to damien for a year now and i've always noticed
one thing that kind of bothers me. He talks about sex, or the lack
there of, or something to do with it pretty regularly. Anybody have any
thoughts on this?

they're just words put together in a sentence that are made to rhyme, and have loads of meaning to damien. Sex in a song....its just words that relate to it, its not like he's having sex whilsts he recorded the cd, and we have to listen to it, He writes about what stays with him emotionally, usu realtionships of some sort......some have sex in them some dont

Just my p.o.v

It doesnt so much as bother me, as it seems odd, i dont know of any
other artist that speak of sex, and use sexual enuendos so openly, i
love his music, and i think it adds to it, just sometimes i feel funny
listening to it around my mom

Give Leonard Cohen, Peaches or Led Zeppelin a listen then.

Leonard and Zeppelin are better though

Lyrics about sex usually make people who are passively listening, sit up and take notice of the song... i'm sure he dosen't use it for that reason, but sex is part of life, so why shouldn't it be part of music?

zeppelin, 'SQUEEZE MY LEMON UNTIL THE JUICE RUNS DOWN MY LEG' hmmm

Cohen : give a 'small song' called hallelujah a try, full of lust, full of powerful amasing lust! for example...

'But remember when i moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah'

love it!

love/sex/lust is one of the most powerful topics of songs, thats one factor to why damien's are so powerful. I guess alot of things to do with love have happened to Mr Rice and he can express himself in a most amazing way through his songs.

I don't know of any musicians who don't write about it. I rather enjoy these 'dirty' songs I'm such a creep.

Hallelujah- I've heard a number of versions:

2 Versions from Cohen

Damien Rice

Bob Dylan

Rufus Wainwright

2 Versions from Buckley

Bono

John Cale

KD Lang

Bob Dylans had to be the most enjoyable in the sense that he got most of the verses backwards. It was very funny! What an amazing song though. I think the song has less to do with sex and it is more a reflection on life in general, but that is just what I got out of itEdited by: Dont Drink
