It's an Irish show... Irish writers, actors, locations etc... but RTE didn't think it was any good and passed on it, so Channel4 (UK) paid for it.

There were a few series (3 I think). Then they decided to finish it, just because they wanted it to always be fresh. On the night the final show was being shown the star (Dermot Morgan) held a party for his close friends and died of a heart attack (I think).

Buy the DVDs you won't be disappointed!

Yeah, there is. Got it for my boyfriend for Christmas. It's great! Includes the Christmas special as well.

A tired brain is a horrible thing. I'm at my second cup now, Daragh!

Thanks for the run-down, Wheels. As for anything being converted for the US market, it's bound to be a desaster.

Public TV buys originals and they love British shows, but I doubt they'd show it on there because of the Christian right and people are still reeling from all the abuse by catholic priests that came to light recently.

I've put the DVD on my wish list

You can read ALL about it here: Abuse in the Catholic Church

"As news broke in early 2002 of a clergy abuse coverup in the Boston Archdiocese, they began to come forward: Victims of abusive priests who had remained silent for years, ashamed to tell their stories or afraid they'd never be believed.

There was the Jamaica Plain mother who invited the Rev. John Geoghan into her home for years, unaware he was molesting her three young sons in their beds. And the Salem boys who were enticed by the Rev. Joseph Birmingham to take trips to the ice cream shop, only to be molested by the priest in his car."
