Just wondering how many of us from North America are on this site? Who are you people and where are you from?

Hi, I am from Sunny Southern California and about ten minutes from Disneyland...but I never go because it sucks. I do not know about you all, but I am having a little trouble with some of the Irish lingo used on this site..I wish someone would interpret.

I had no idea Ireland got the Simpsons. It is all my step-brother watches. Lingo...just little stuff you see here and there. Also, what exactly is United Kingdom. I thought the U.K. included Ireland, Scotland, England and maybe something else. It is like America and U.S. Is it the same thing or are there different countries involoved....ach, I am so confused. What is a busker. It says I am a Eskimo Busker. What exactly is that? And why do the titles keep changing and how do they change; by posts, time, date of membership?

The United Kingdom consists of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland: UK map & facts

Ireland (minus Northern Ireland) has been independent of the UK since 1921.

I think this message board is under control of Cork which you can see in the southwest of Ireland. The capital, Dublin, is to the east, and artsy Galway is the next bay over from Boston!

A "busker" is a street musician. I don't think that word is used in the US To come back to the topic at hand, Damien started out as a busker.

I feel like a teacher now. Wait...I *am* a teacher. Quick, someone hand me a tangent!

OOOH Angela....while you provided a very good explanation, its kinda lucky there doesn't seem to be any Welsh people on the board!! They would be ! The UK also includes Wales.....they would definitely see themselves as a separate country.

Why aren't there any welsh people here? Hmm. I want more Welsh people here. So if you're lurking then jump in and say hello!

So do I have to change the name from Eskimo Busker to something else now? Maybe I should use thelingo of the people's republic of cork on this site so nobody understands! Oh that would be funny...

State a him la = He looks bad
I claim ya = I would really like to engage in a fight with you.

have a lash off = have a go
Lash into hash = Smoke cannibas
Be wide = be careful
Be dog wide = be extra careful

See, that tells you just how confused we Americans are about the UK. I didn't know the Welsh considered themselves separate from the English.

But....I'll make up for it! Because I know we actually have a Welsh member on the board: "JackMartinEF"

Oh well yeah, but its used in a like, totally(like, totally!!) different way.

In Cork its often at the end of the sentence(as opposed to above) and its kinda drawwwn out, liiike!

Nyway, that isn't my list, I just c&p'd it from an e-mail i got, liiike!

Oh, about the Welsh, The Stereophonics/Welsh rugby fans sing a great song called "As long as we beat the English"
...so if JackMartin is there, this is for him!

We don't wanna be your enemy,
But when we're on the field,
It's red, white and green,

Get beat by the Irish,
Get beat by the Scots,
The French ought'ta struggle,
But you're the one we want,
We want...

As long as we beat the English,
As long as we beat the English,
As long as we beat the English, we don't care

As long as we beat the English,
As long as we beat the English,
As long as we beat the English, we don't care
We don't care

I see. I love the Cork accent. Though I've only met one guy from Cork here so far.

Um, thx but no thx. I hate this horrible hatred between people from Wales to the English. Racists of any type, however mild they seem disgust me.

Sorry dude. That wasn't my intention. I wouldn't see that as racism in any shape or form though. Its just sporting rivalry, is it not?

I gather Jack doesn't play socker Of course that kind of club rivalry has nothing to do with racism. Hell, I always root for the Italians at the World Cup! (Except when the Germans make it to the final, ahem ).

Thanks Angela, I felt kinda bad there for a minute
I mean, even the first line is: "we don't wanna be your enemy" I just think its quite funny to hear them sing it is all.

Its like that thing last year when the BBC(English station) wanted everyone to vote for the best song of all time on their website and some bright spark in Ireland started one of those snowball e-mails to get "A Nation once again" by the Wolfe Tones up there. It was just a laugh, in fairness, and I don't think anyone took it too seriously!
