Default Great new review

This sums up Damien perfectly, I think. Philly

Quote:
Damien Rice evokes tears of love, longing
By A.D. Amorosi
For The Inquirer

With one line from his eerily touchy, sexily clumsy ballad "Accidental Babies," Damien Rice reviewed his sold-out Tower Theater show:

"I know I make you cry/I know sometimes you wanna die/but do you really feel alive without me?"

There are reasons these lyrics sum up the Rice experience at Friday's gig.

People cried when the smartly imagistic songwriting singer did his thing, bawled when the lovelorn lyricist with the high, lilting Irish brogue took on "The Blower's Daughter." When Rice hit the phrase "no love no glory/no hero in her skies," powee! women burst into tears. Dudes, too.

Rice's breaking falsetto didn't stop the flow.

But they cried only when they weren't vibed alive by Rice's richly romantic moments - the simplicity of the same-old, same-old made special by the flying spaceships of "Amie." As that swelled (like "Space Oddity" performed by Sigur Ros) to a finale, segueing effortlessly into the echoing "Eskimo," couples kissed - really kissed. Was it the line "I look to my eskimo friend when I'm down"? The mind boggled.

Making that moment more intimate, Rice pulled from the mike, walked forward and sang softly into the haunting acoustics abyss of the Tower.

Not every Rice melody was memorable. But each moment was. Like drummer Tom Osander's hand-pounded rhythms and subtle cymbal rides. Like cellist Vyvienne Long's deep bows on Rice's softest strummed tunes and her roaring sawed presence as Rice raged through a feed-backing voice-processed scowl. Like Rice dramatically flattening his voice as his usually present, divinely ethereal backing vocalist Lisa Hannigan joined him for such songs as the potent cheating ballad "9 Crimes" and "I Remember," with Rice preciously sketching a love's first moment in the ardent line: "your mouth your mouth your mouth."

Powee.

nice review....it seems like it was cut short though, but nonetheless, i'm guilty of crying i'm pretty sure it was during the amie/eskimo 'cause it was so surreal.

I think A.D. Amorosi definately sounds like they're already a fan .

This is one of the best reviews I've read thus far that truly sums up Damien's concerts. Kudos!
