Thank you thank you owlie!!! Now I can finally get to see it...
*returns after five minutes* Er... yeah, the very first shot of Lisa's head just lying there scared the crap out of me. But the rest of it was very very lovely, after you get over the freakishness of it all. Loved the ending... it was so sad! I find it funny though, how the Lisa-balloon floats out of his reach at the beginning in front of the tall wall thingy, but when he turns away to leave it seems to come back and follow him. Kind of like the balloon saying, 'Take me home!' to a little child. Hahaha... |

i just watched the youtube segments that dan posted.. it made me cry again just like when i was a kid. damien looks like a little boy to me now in the video (well okay, he kind of did anyway but it's cute) and now that i've seen the film again i love the video even more. yes it's surreal and strange and a little incomprehensible at first, but that's so damien.. i think they did a good job |

Any of you noticed that when Damien first tries to catch Lisa she goes away and when he turns back, she's after him?
I bet it's a metaphor, hehe when you show yourself too interested by a girl she plays uncatchable, then as soon as you give up she shows back. Damien also said something like that about writing songs. Was like "when you go in a field and you want to touch cows, if you run after them they'll just flee, the best way to touch cows is to go there, sit and wait, they'll come to you". But I think they don't take themselves seriously at all in this video, I think they're kind of laughing at us. As if they don't care bout the video, they just had some fun. |

Damien is a cow-toucher, and Lisa is a balloon head. They sound like childhood insults, but only in this topsy turvy universe are they true!
The video creeped me out a little bit. It was a nice attempt to make light at the song, but I don't think it worked, it just looked a bit silly; It was shot nicely though. I thought the acting was laboured. Nice idea though, but the dismembered floating head was a bit too scary/amusing/pretentious for a Damien Rice video. Jamie Thraves video's are always a bit hit and miss though aren't they? P.S There is nothing wrong with Damien's coat.

it's a nicely made video, i like it. the connection of the old short film The Red Baloon made it even more interesting, i need to watch that movie.

The song is about cheating on his girlfriend when his girlfriend was in paris and he..i don't know somewhere else(he told the story sometime, when he played it) and if you see it like this...you are alone and the coin is the sex you find somewhere, but then you think of your girlfriend and feel bad and feel that she is fading away (in yourself), but when you come back to meet her, you turn away from her with this thoughts (she is behind him) until you tell it (or someone else = the kids in the video) to her and it's like a punch in her face...and the love breaks...
my interpretation :-) sorry for bad english! |
