HAHAHAH. That made me laugh. We have alot of fun festival stories of that year, and one of them was laughing when Damien came on at The Frames gig; "If there's a stage at this festival, you just can't keep him off it".
I met him on the Saturday and I told him I was generally dissapointed by the audience in The Electric Arena, and he agreed. I wish I'd have seen him at the Big Tree on the night, as he asked us to pop along and see him, but my girlfriend was ill!

What did he say about the audience?

If you dont mind, can you tell us all about your 'meeting' with him?

i don't see how that is too far...

i think you are just disappointed.

if he tours and plays anywhere, if not here in my town again, then i'll def go see him if he is in a neighboring state! better be weekend dates though! i hate when there are big bands playing in a neighboring state/town, but i can't travel because it is a week day : (

The audience was pretty poor for that show. I think they all went along kind of expecting to be entertained but without the inconvenience of having to listen first. And since what they do depends so much on the audience, they just weren't feeling it. It was probably the worst set they played over the whole week. It was competent, but it didn't have that extra oomph to it. The shows he played at the big tree were one of the most intense things I've ever seen live though. It was the same night, saturday, and he came on at 1:15 in the morning. They ended up doing two really huge jams that were roughly 30 mins each... It was totally off the cuff.

oh I hope it's true! And if it is true I hope they come to Canada this time. If Glen (and Damien) skips Canada (again, in Glen's case), I'll have to gnaw on them a little bit.

Yeah, they better include a small trip up north of the border during this "american" tour - otherwise, addy, we might just have to take a road trip to see them

this is just two dates - and even then the reliability of it is dubious...
I don't understand why people are calling it a tour? It's just two nights or am i missing something?

slightly.

The Swell Season would be supporting Damien on his tour in support of the new album and they are making two stops in LA.

Hence the "tour."

assuming it's true of course, I'm fully aware of the chances that it isn't.

Ohh ok thanks for clearing that up. Hey ho - if damien does want to tour america, why shouldn't he? if he doesn't want to tour at all, why should he?

That said, I would absolutely love another UK or Ireland tour.

Not to slight you, Jarm, but screw you :P I just report what I hear. I'm just trying to help. I don't make it up or pull it out of my ass. If those who tell me the info are unreliable (album release info came from someone who worked on the album and may have been purposefully giving me the wrong date), don't blame it on me. Maybe I should have checked the Wiltern's site first, but I was just so excited and bummed at the same time when I got home at 1:30 in the morning. I'd love for the dates to be wrong because I want to be there.

There were at least 4 other people with me when Glen said what he said, so I really don't care what you think. He may have had his dates wrong, but he seemed pretty confident in telling all of us that they'd be back supporting Damien on tour in December. The only thing to question is whether Glen is right - not whether I'm just making it up.

Not to slight you or anything, but you have no reason to doubt my integrity

I want to say there was at least one Brazilian Eskimo amongst us who always made the usual comments that he wished Damien would tour in Brazil whenever touring was mentioned. Maybe that eskimo is finally getting his wish

agreed. that was one of the most intense, mind blowing sets ive ever seen damien and band do. his set in the electric arena was awfull. reminded me of witnness a few years back with drunken idiots shouting out of tune into your ear. i stood at the very very back and was quite pissed off until the gig on the big tree. totally blown away

anyways back ontopic i think he should tour america more. he is a majour success here and could sell out vicar street for weeks on end, but he doesnt need to. He will still reach number 1 quite easily in my opinion
America is a much harder market to master and i wouldnt be upset if he toured there moreso than here.

Come on back the the U. S. Damien, and more importantly, back to Dallas Texas. I can't wait to see you play again. Here's an idea, play the Gypsy Tea Room again! (Man, I wish!!)

I suppose realistically it's up to him. People always seem to forget that behind the career there is a life to be lived there. The best reason to be a musician is to travel, and actually do something adventurous with your life. If people can't actually support the idea of him and the band going places like Singapore, Burma, Brazil, Iceland and the US just for the sake of doing it, then the question is; are these people just a cd to you?
