Default What song do you play for someone whose never heard Damien?

What song do you play for someone whose never heard Damien?

It's a tough question. I just want to sit them down and play every song.

like a hipster, i don't want to pr for him, don't want him to be too much famous. Music's lovers should come and find out theirself

but i would chose these antiwar songs: what if i'm wrong, unplayed piano, lonely soldier. Not only chinese. Jap should listen to What if i'm wrong and think about their shameless crime

though indeed. i´ve forwarding colour me in to many of my friends who don´t listen to damien but know how much i love his music.

i think i would start with volcano and i remember. i´d go to prague and coconut skins as well and i suppose i´d play the blower´s daugther at some point... i would never forget to play sand, of course, and i´d add colour me in, long long way and it takes a lot to know a man, to make them listen his last songs.

and, of course... i´d make them watch any live performance

edit: what if i´m wrong it´s an excellent choice... btw, i think it´s address to every human being, to each of us.

Since I've been spending so much time and money traveling to NYC to see him people around me have been curious.

Colour Me In has been my first choice as of late.

Trusty and True too.

I Remember, Prague, What if I'm wrong, volcano would all be perfect.

Ahhh so many

I like to link them to videos. I feel associating a visual helps people enjoy the music more.

I agree with the video sentiments. Elephant in Korea? The Professor in Italy a few years back where he tells the story about overeating? Perfect for Thanksgiving. I only have my phone or I would send you links.

Vere it's too much information for a first listening
I think I would have start with Volcano or The Box...

Rootless Tree has been my go-to for years. I feel like it sums him up quite nicely, and has gotten more than a few people hooked.

I got my brothers into Damien by playing them The Professor. Since that day, they've been hooked!

Why not giving them the first song that drew you to Damien's music?

For me it's the blower's daughter. Even though since then I have preferred other songs he wrote, when it came out TBD was a very unique and special song, and it made me curious to get to know his music. I still think it's a very unique song and it can be a great start. Next favorite one was I remember.

It also depends on the person's taste in music. luckily Damien's music is versatile so there's a choice. and for people who enjoy the diversity you can recommend a whole album. I think O would be a good start, as it actually was .

What I usually tell people (especially if it's someone impatient) is that Damien's worth discovering. even if they're not off their feet after they hear the first song for the first time, some of his songs grow on you, and he has many different songs, so it's worth the time.

Yes, time to watch live performances, listen to interviews, read articles ....all of which adds to his amazingness.

I feel like I want to carry around copies of O to hand out to people who ask

Its hard to choose a song(s) to recommend to people unfamiliar with Damien's music, but if I had to choose one, I think I will choose the first that I heard: "The Blower daughter", if I choose two I will add one of the new ones, probably "Trusty and True" because is universal but I will consider too "It Takes a Lot to know a Man", "Colour Me In" and "My Favourite Faded Fantasy".

All live versions.
