Default Hozier's first album

It's finally available in Europe and I'm hooked already.
This will definitely keep me busy 'til the end of October

I love him also. I discovered him by chance, watching Morning Becomes Eclectic videos on youtube a few months ago.

The iTunes Festival show was amazing as well.

I'm a tiny bit obsessed myself. I'd downloaded his first EP back when it was free on Bandcamp, and I saw that he was playing a show here in New York for $10 in March. I figured what the hell and went. I was blown away! I've been preaching the gospel ever since.

His mother is part of an art collective that is putting on an exhibition in Brooklyn right now, so last night they had an opening party. Hozier said he'd be playing, so I decided what the hell, free art. All of the work was incredible, and getting to see the album cover up close as a painting blew my mind. I figured it was mixed media, but no, it's all oil paint! Talent clearly runs in the family.

They only had one microphone that wouldn't adjust well enough (he is so. tall.), so he just had everyone gather around while he did "In a Week" unplugged with Alana Henderson. I was front and center, sitting about six inches from him. Surreal. Then everyone was so hooked that he did "Take Me to Church" as well. It was an incredible, special night.

You got some wonderful photos. He's definitely the tallest guy I've ever met. I love that even though he doesn't do a lot of showy stuff on the stage, his voice and his playing are captivating enough.

I put some photos from his New York shows on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/21621347@N00/

Nice!
You're right, he keeps it very simple on stage, but he doesn't really need anything else. His voice is so powerful, and his songs are intriguing.
I love that he has this really original sound. He's clearly inspired by classic bluesy stuff, but he doesn't just copy, he really has his own voice. It's hard to believe that he's still so young.

He's playing in Rotterdam (Netherlands) this weekend. I might go. (Angus and Julia Stone are playing in Brussels the same day. I can't make up my mind)

I'm not really a dancer but every time I hear 'angel of small death' i suddenly feel the unexplainable need to dance...

I saw him in Glasgow a couple of nights ago, great gig! He even covered '1 Thing' by Amerie as an encore, got everyone dancing!

Maybe I should listen to some live performances. I think he sounds like Elton John in Take me to church, and I don't like Elton John. (Okay, don't smack me for saying...)

I had listened to "take me to church" on the radio several times and really liked it but I had no idea who was singing. then today they said the name on the radio and the name sounded familiar and then I remember I had seen it here!
didn't know he was irish too!! might have to check out some other songs!
Great pics Carroline!!

just like Damien, he was also on Jo Whiley doing a session this week:

Jo even asks Hozier about Damien, which he knows but does´t seem to be a fan

I like his bluesier songs the most myself (To Be Alone, It Will Come Back), but he really is incredible live. I don't much hear the Elton John comparison, though I can kind of see it for Take Me to Church.

He's just sold out yet another NYC date. It'll be his sixth in just over a year. I'm so excited for him, and I feel so lucky to have gotten tickets so many times. He's really taken off.

Yeah, the bluesy songs are great. I've been listening to 'it will come back' a lot lately.

i've added some monochromes too... http://wp.me/p4Max4-a8

He really seemed to enjoy the show.
It was a very receptive audience, and he picked up on that, I guess
I felt like he really grew as a performer since the last time I saw him.

setlist:
  1. Arsonist's Lullabye
  2. From Eden
  3. Jackie and Wilson
  4. Someone New
  5. Sedated
  6. It Will Come Back
  7. In a Week (with Alana Henderson)
  8. Illinois Blues (Skip James cover)
  9. Like Real People Do
  10. Work Song
  11. To Be Alone
  12. Foreigner's God
  13. Take Me to Church

    Encore:
  14. Cherry Wine
  15. Run
  16. 1 Thing (Amerie cover)
  17. Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene

I loved that they played 'Run'
The whole encore was amazing

Also loved Alana Henderson. (just cello + drums + vocals, great sound.)
