My first was when i was walking past the NME stage at the V festival in the summer of 2003 when i heard this kind of acoustic laid back kind of sound from this man with a mohawk wearing like a caftan and a battered old acoustic.
Something like this! I listened at the back of the field for a bit and he seemed a lot like (at the time) some of the solo Thom Yorke/Radiohead acoustic stuff i had. I remember the blower's daughter really vividly because of the really strong and obviously in love lyrics of "I can't take my eyes off you" I had never heard love emotian like that before. I also remember some guy on the stage telling damo that he had like 3 minutes left on stage so damo quickly did a rendition of Be My Husband. After the set i left the stage fairly enlightened with what looked like a really versitaile, emotianal, interesting artist. A couple of weeks later the Telegraph had their latest edition of "The Month." (This is a CD they release every month with all the top new CD's on and the new films and shows) They had damo featured on it. At the time i couldn't really remember all of his name apart from the Rice part. I listened to the snippets of the songs and out came the line "I can't take my eyes off you" I thought cool thats the song i remember and thought, why don't i give this album a try. Bought it and it didn't come out of my CD player for about 8 months. I have played it on average every day since then with the added shows i have got Thank you damo!Edited by: mestonf

Read an interview that he and Lisa did, recognised her from a few places, then downloaded a clip of Cannonball, decided it wasn't for me. Heard the professor on Phantom a few months later, changed my mind.

I heard of "damien somebody" who was meant to be good. Mentioned that to my physics teacher, he went out & bought the album and gave me a copy. I promptly bought my own and similar to Felix, its been lodgedin my cd player since. That was over a year ago - i fall asleep to it every single night!

i remember hearing this song where there were overlapping vocals, one being a beautiful delicate female voice, at the end of a pretty unique sounding tune on the radio and thought... "man... i haven't heard anything this beautiful in a long time" (i usually NEVER listen to the radio cause it's 99% junk)... i wanted to find out who it was but they didn't announce it so i listened to that station nonstop until they played it again which was at least a week later... it was damien rice

day when i was just getting into music, i burned o. i took it up to my room, bunged it on, i dunno did my homework or something, recognised most of the songs so i was fairly happy with it. once it got to i remember though...my god...it blew my mind!

My girlfriend lent me the CD in the summer of 2002. I loved every song straight away, except for Cheers Darlin'. We broke up a while later and she started seeing someone else. All of a sudden, I loved Cheers Darlin' as it brought me on the perfect journey of bitterness and self-pity. I'm over that now tho, and I just enjoy the song. Perfect at the time tho!

First time I heard Damo was on the Carson Daly show, a show I only rarely watch. He played Volcano first, and I thought it was pretty good, but when he played Blower's Daughter I teared up and decided I needed his album.

i was reading on a bands website what books and music they recommended/ were listening to. and damien rice was on each of the members lists. so went out and bought the record and tpopped it in my cd player in my car (where i get my best listening done). i drove from my home back to school, which took the whole duration of the cd. my friend was in the car, so i couldnt fully concentrate with him talking the whole time, but i just kept hearing something profound over his voice. i listened to it causually, then i met a girl who was really into music as i was. we talked and good ole damo came up, then we started talking more, staying up til all hours of the night, listening to damo and talking on the computer. i was hooked, on her obviously, but his music. he soon became my inspiration, my obsession...and my constant listen. i still cannot describe the way his music makes me feel, or how remarkable i think it is.

Ok Ok My turn I got an update from VH1 on my email and one of the featured artists was Damien Rice, at that time I dont think the album was out yet but they had four live videos of Damien. The first song I clicked on was The Blowers Daughter, from the very first note it only got better and better, I was instantly struck by the power of raw emotion of the beautiful but painful lyrics. Right then my life had changed both as a human being and a performer, I had never seen such a display of emotions in a performer before but it was obvious that Damien is not just a performer, this is his life he's sharing with us and THAT is what makes him different and great! This old mans story! Peace |

I was cruising websites and had gotten totally hooked on watching videos on Launch. It was right around or shortly after Xmas time last year. Damien was the month'sfeatured artist.I saw "Irish singer-songwriter" and I was like "I'm there!" But I was totally blown away by him and Vyvienne doing Volcano (Damo sang Lisa's part and messed up the lyrics a bit lol) and the interview where he said f**k every other word endeared me to him immediately. In fact I think the interview began "I just hadn't given a f**k..." Ah Damien! God bless the internet for leading me to him!! Linkage I remember it well... |

I was up really late one night like around 2:30am or so, I couldn't
sleep because I was having a really bad time and it was all sh*te. I don't have cable television in my apartment but for some really strange reason, we get MTV2 from about 2am-5:30am on some random channel. I saw the video for volcano, wrote down the name Damien Rice when it was over...about a week later I bought the CD and haven't stopped playing it and every other Damien song since. That was about June or July of last year. My life completely changed after that, I will never forget it.

I was up late...as always. And I was flipping through the channels. There he was. Singing Blower's Daughter on Carson Daly. I just stopped. I was enthralled. I remember thinking how amazingly beautiful it was. I didn't catch who it was though. So I went on a hunt. I searched Carson Daly's website and found him. :amien Rice. Hmm? I do believe I'll have to check out his other stuff.:: That was that. His music and I had a secret love affair for months before I finally decided to share him. I still get jealous when I hear someone else talk about him. (LOL!)

person. Things have been harder but I became me, or became strong enough to be me, it's harder but I know it's so much better. It was like there he was just singing my life and saying everything I think out loud. That was it, it has been one long "moment" since I found him.

I had just split up with a psychopath, although it was really hard, my heart wanted me to keep giving it another chance, but I was running out of scar-free body parts and my apartment had enough dents and stains from her throwing stuff around. So I was having a really hot bath, and smoking a really big joint and this mate had given me his copy of 'O' to check out. The bath was run, and I took a puff of the joint, leant over and pressed play and 'Delicate' started... I think I sat there for the whole album, the water was cold and the joint was finished... Man that was great.
