Quote:
Feb 9th 008: On March 18th a group of NYC artists and producers have collaborated to stage the event "PEACE IN IRAQ AND JUSTICE AT HOME". Performers include Scissor Sisters, Norah Jones, Damian Rice, Blonde Red Head, Bill T Jones, Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed and Antony, as well as a plethora of speakers with their own insights on these issues. This event will take place at 8pm at St Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday at $65 and $125. Proceeds benefit UNITED FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE and IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN VETERANS AGAINST THE WAR. A limited number of lower priced tickets wil be made available in about a weeks time for artists and students. Check back in a week for details about this.
Sounds way too cool! I wanna go!

laurie anderson, lou reed and antony.. this is the same crew damien did the tibet house benefit with a year or two ago, isn't it? i said it before but i would love to hear a collabo with damien and laurie, she's so avant garde i'd like to see what they would come up with.

once again damien's using his "time-off" to put his talents to use for worthy causes. very admirable

The movie ran through me
The glamour subdued me
The tabloid untied me
I'm empty please fill me
Mister anchor assure me
That Baghdad is burning
Your voice it is so soothing
That cunning mantra of killing
I need you my witness
To dress this up so bloodless
To numb me and purge me now
Of thoughts of blaming you
Yes the car is our wheelchair
My witness your coughing
Oily silence mocks the legless boys
Who travel now in coffins
On the corner
The jury's sleepless
We found your weakness
And it's right outside your door

Now testify

rage against the ****in machine

Would be great if we could all be compassionate adults and actually thoroughly discuss what the benefit is for!!!

SPEAK UP!!! Peace In Iraq and Justice at Home!!

All proceeds benefit United for Peace and Justice and Iraq Veterans Against the War!!!!!!

Sorry, I just had a very heated converstation with someone regarding how the US government "obviously takes care of our wounded soldiers." I actually really got into this issue after a Damien concert. We have discussed this before here I think!

It just makes me so mad that even after a soldier goes overseas, fights for reasons no one can justify, if they get wounded, the government doesn't foot the bill!!!!! GRRRRR!!!!!!

VolcanoesMeltUDown, thank you for actually speaking up about the issue. My cousin was a soldier who was killed in Iraq even though he wasn't a combat soldier; he dismantled bombs. The military even took over the funeral, and some man who didn't even know his full name delivered the eulogy. And what for? Well, a goal that can't even be articulated, let alone achieved.

Sadly we're a culture that revolves a lot around money and loud voices, so events like these are necessary. I think the issue needs to remain in the public eye with the upcoming presidential election. And that is my mini rant.
